Hi,

Wifey has a problem with hotspots on her right foot. We took Machka's advice and moved the cleats back little by little- left foot cleared up, right foot still hot. Cleats are all the way aft now.

She wants to try a different shoe- the current ones are cheap Shimanos- MT40s touring/gen; purpose MT bike/exercise shoes, SPD. Pedals are SPD A520s.

Question- are some shoes more prone to hotspots than others? DOn't want to end up with a closet full of shoes...

A stiffer shoe should spread the pressure out a little more, and reduce hotspots. Of course a stiffer shoe is harder to walk normally in.

A stiffer shoe will be a big help, especially with SPDs. Consider Shimano's SH-RT50. I use the predecessor which is stiff while still being nearly as walkable as a sneaker. I have had no foot issues on distances up to 107 miles in a day.
