So I just complete my first foray into rebuilding a '64 S.A. 3 speed AW hub. Actually went pretty well, replaced a couple of parts and seems to be fine.
My question is about adjusting the indicator chain/cable. In 3rd gear, if I tighten the cable just slightly taught, it only works for 3rd and 2nd gear, 1st just spins and doesn't engage the hub. The only way I can get all three "gears" to work is to have the cable really loose when in 3rd gear.
So my question is, how loose is too loose? Or does it matter with 3sp hubs. Currently in 3rd gear the cable droops, in second, the cable is slightly taught, in first, very tight. If you pull the lever slightly beyond 3rd, it disengages again.
Thanks.
