Introductions - Newbie in Metro Atlanta!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I haven't ridden a bike with any regularity since I was kid, maybe 15 years ago. Well, I recently had use of an old Murray K-Mart bike that I would ride to work every once in a while. It was a beater! That got me interested in having a really nice bike that I could actually enjoy riding - for transportation purposes, as well as fitness and recreation. My work commute is only 4 miles round trip (not including the train ride that takes me the rest of the way), so I am looking forward to some recreational rides on both pavement and dirt paths. I also can't wait to learn more about maintenance and tuning of my new bike.
It's a Marin Muirwoods.

Hello Jake, you should get a lot of pleasure out of your Marin. I hear that there is a lot going on in Atlanta with the locals--you should check into the Southeast regional forum and introduce yourself there, as well--and we'll be looking for some commute photos in the Commuting forum.
Welcome to BF!

Welcome Jake.
Lots of Atlanta folks on BF. Many of us hang out in the Southeast (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=234) subforum.
Lots of commuters here too.

Bike commuting is a great fitness activity. Have you considered ditching Marta and riding the entire distance?

Thanks for the welcome.
I have been reading a little bit about Atlanta biking, and I definitely plan on taking advantage. I will continue to utilize MARTA getting to and from work, but I do plan on gettting off one or two stops earlier to extend the bicycle part of my commute. It will be dark after work, so I'd feel more comfortable sticking to my neighborhood at that time.
I guess that's all, thanks!
Jake
