Do I need to spend 20 bucks Canadian to get good break pads or will 6 dollar ones do the trick?
I have worn through the stock ones in about two weeks. (150 kilometers) Should I be expecting to replace them this often??

umm...you are braking too much. Either that or you got bad brake pads...

It all depends on the riding you do. I live in FL, so my pads last me forever. However, when I road trip up to NC or North GA and hit some actual descents, I can put some wear on my pads. When I went to CO, last summer, I went through a set of front pads in about 2 weeks!
BTW, cheaper pads are usually of a harder compound and actually last longer. More expensive pads are softer, grip better, stop you better, sometimes even a combination of two different compounds and will wear out quicker.
Kool Stop make about the best pads. WTB also has some good ones. Shimano pads are pretty crappy. I'd avoid those!
