After being dropped from the main group in a crash, he recovers, regains the pack and then destroys the sprint field for todays win.

It was beautiful! For a second, I thought Robbie Hunter was going to hold it...but only for a second.

It's also customary to warn people in the thread title if you're posting a spoiler for the race results.
But yes, Robbie is a tough guy. If I remember correctly, he finished the Tour with a cracked vertebra a few years ago.

His team showed themselves today too. Getting him back to the sprinters wasn't easy as the leaders were setting a tough pace. The coolest thing about McEwen is that half the time he doesn't need a leadout, he just grabs an opponents wheel and then explodes out of nowhere to take the sprint.

Short of QuickStep clubbing Robbie to death, I don't see Boonen beating him.

Way to ruin it for everyone who's taping it/watching later re-broadcasts.
At least he Phil re-used the 'invisible cloak', AND 'the little man with the big heart'.

I was sure somebody was going to come around Hunter as they were all sitting down way too far out, but I never saw McEwen at all. I don't think Boonen stood until McEwen blew and it was too late for anything by then.
The only sure way to beat Robbie is to make him hit the front with more than 75 yards to go. He can't hold top speed any longer than that.

That Lotto was able to reel in the peloton wasn't so amazing to me as how did McEwen get through it to get to the front?
"Excuse me, coming through, on your left, on your right, excuse me..."

Is this the point where we ask the Mods to put up a sticky, to advise all of the folk who only post in July, to take it to the Tour Forum?
I believe it is. I should have known. This is the only time of the year when I use my dinosaur of a VCR to actually record something:cry:

No, everyone just needs to do what we did during the Giro. Title your threads like this:
TDF Stage 1 Spoiler...

The studliness of McEwen is not measurable by any current technology.
That is all.

if these threads were posted in the tdf forum like they should be we wouldnt even need to worry about spoilers here. ugh

I would think the thread title would be a hint.
There is much more to watch than just the finish.
Besides, if you only watch to see the finish why bother taping?

Robbie! Robbie! Robbie!
That's all I wanted to say, really. What a burst of speed from nowhere. And after getting back to the front!

Actually, he's renowned for his lead out man pulling aside at 200 metres to go.

The original title, before it was moved from the Road Racing forum, was something very general like "McEwen is a stud", with no mention of the Tour de France or that day's stage.

Does anyone have a video link of the crash? I wanted to see how it happened because the clip only shows him pulling off to the side and then going into overdrive mode.

I've seen this guy do this time after time and I wonder what kind of wattage Robbie produces in a finish like that...the aerial view shows him just rocketing by everyone - incredible!
