Hi all
I recently relocated from Boston, MA to Burbank, CA. A bit about me: I'm 26 years old and I grew up on the bike (thanks dad!). Once I moved to Boston 8 years ago I spent 2 years as a messenger and continued to ride fixies long afterward. In the past 12 months I have not been on the bike as much as my job had me on the road on a regular basis. Now that I'm here I have started riding again and it feels great. Hopefully I get to do some of the forum rides and such. And if anyone is in Burbank and wants to give me a tour I'll buy you a beer :D
Cheers
Rob

Welcome, Rob! :) Sure, you buy me a beer and I'll give you a tour of my hills and valley...Burbank hills and valley, I mean. :p Seriously, there is a whole group of us who do rides in this area and there is a wonderful Hill Hazing ride in Burbank on Wednesday nights, a Griffith Park night ride soon to start up again, and last but not least, a Pasadena night ride. If you don't like riding at night, the SFVBC does several rides every Sunday and if I'm not mistaken, they tour about Burbank too.

No! Don't buy M.E. a beer. If she drinks and rides all kinds of bad things will happen. She'll start carrying a messenger bag, she'll stick spoke cards in her wheels and she'll ride in khaki pants and flip flops. No one wants that.

I don't recall any old guys on your Wednesday night rides. Are they new to the group?

Don't you roll your eyes at me! Out here, men your age date women Rob's age, and I doubt they consider themselves old. Lucky, maybe, but not old. :p

Welcome Rob! I made almost the same move January 2006. I relocated to Palmdale after 16 months in Templeton, MA. The weather is much, much nicer here. Enjoy!

Wow thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Hopefully I'll make some of the group rides. Since I'm just getting back into the swing of things I'm doing shorter 20-25 mile rides but hopefully I'll be good to go for longer rides shortly.
Rob
A little hint: I've found that the best way to get rides to your liking is to organize the rides. Then you can pick exactly what ride you want to do and when you want to do the ride. And at least for weekend rides, more often than not, you'll find someone willing to join you. Definitely come join some rides sometime, but if the rides aren't to your taste, organize something! :D

Yes; I'm trying to move my riding time to the evenings rather than daytime so I can get some other things done. But I might meet you at Honolulu & Tujunga Cyn. since I'm already up here, and do La Tuna Cyn. towards the end. I'm guessing maybe 40 min. from Buena Vista & Glenoaks to the top of La Tuna, so a little after 7pm at Tujunga Cyn & Honolulu?

Thats probably about right...
Eddie and Mark will be up there before me..we usually regroup at the top, before the drop to honolulu
Sounds like a good ride for conditioning Rob might want to consider. See you Weds. about 7 @ the top of La Tuna. Thanks herbman.:)

I think I might join in. I'm just getting back from the opening of Harry Potter (don't ask) but I'll see if I have the energy for it. Where is the official starting point?

Good ride tonite fellas! The headwind on La Tuna was a bit stronger than expected and it slowed me down a bit. I can't believe I left my water bottle at the regrouping area...I'm such a dumba**!!! Glad Rob was able to make it. He rode really well for not getting much riding in lately and did good up La Tuna with a traditional double. Thanks for the water Rob! Mark continues to surprise me with his strength, he had a really good pace going on Mountain and I felt the burn in my legs trying to keep up. HR was hanging at around 159 the whole time I was tailing him. C-ya next week.

Funny thing. I was riding up La Tuna tonight and there was this water bottle sitting right on top of a power box at the top of the grade. I thought some homeless person might have left it there, but it was almost full so I glombed onto it, went up to McDonalds and sold it for $2.:D :D
Thanks for the ride guys. I needed that. BTW, I'll pass the bottle to Herb on Sunday.
It was a great night for riding...the temperature was perfect....
Glad you could join us Gene, and it was great to meet Rob...
Rob is a very strong rider, and when he gets a few more miles in...look out...
BTW Roadfox..he is a fixie rider also!!
