View Full Version : Arriving in So Cal early August.
Greetings. I grew up in California but have been away for many years. Will be returning to the SF valley (Woodland Hills). Any good riding groups/clubs in the SF Valley? Are there any local time trials, road races etc? I just started out with racing. Also can anyone recommend a good route from the West SF to the PCH and closest beach? Other good places to ride? Thanks in advance.

Welcome back, Muk. See www.sfvbc.org (http://www.sfvbc.org). Also see the thread here titled "the sfvbc thread". Large and diverse group of very friendly riders. A pretty good selection of rides every Sat and Sun, as well as regular weekday rides. We often take advantage of the Santa Monica mountains, and occasionally Angeles Forest to the East. One of the club members, Shai ("Sphrung" on here) has begun mapping all the sfvbc routes here (http://www.shprung.com/sfvbc/). Excellent reference.
And this board is one of the best resources of all.
Thanks. Look forward to doing some group rides! I am going to have to get used to the hills though. The SFV bike club sounds like a nice group of folks.

As for routes to the beach? The most direct from Woodland Hills is Topanga Canyon Blvd over to PCH.
From Ventura and Topanga boulevards it's about 11.5 miles with all the climbing in the first three miles. Drops you onto PCH, from there a left turn gets you to Santa Monica, a right turn takes you north to Malibu.
Hook up on plenty of group rides with SFVBC every Saturday and Sunday morning at CSUN, 8:00 AM sharp.
