I just heard about a used Trek 2300 for sale, 58cm. I only have a 31" inseam. I haven't seen the bike yet but is there any hope of this size even coming close to fitting me or should I forget it and keep looking?

You can look up Trek geometries on their site, www.trekbikes.com.

The standover on the 58cm is 31.9 inches. Sounds painful.

try the bike on for size. I have ridden a bike a little to tall for me to straddle for years, with no adverse impact. I just have to plan ahead as to which foot will be on the ground at a stop, which is a good thing, and may be why I never had any problems with clipless pedals.
