Foo - I Moved to Dallas

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know it has been a while since I posted--life has been crazy and I had to take a sanity break from BF. Anyway, I took a pastorate in Old East Dallas and, well, I'm back in Big D after a 3 1/2 year stint in Oklahoma City. I've been here a week and am quite happy to be back home in Texas. The riding climate here is much friendlier and it is certainly much easier to go car free here in OKC. Anyway, I hope I can stop in more often than I have.
howdy, and welcome back to Texas.
I moved out of Texas... last September. I lived in Allen, above Plano, worked in Dallas in the building with the big hole in the middle on Ross. Or as my co-worker's would say: I live up in OK!
Now I'm back in the San Francisco Bay Area after 5 really good years in TX!

Why would you move there? For crying out loud, jsharr lives there.
If he doesn't get you, then Jerry Jones will.
You're crazy.
I keep jsharr caged under the bridge most of the time. Had to let him loose for a bit after all that rain though, shouldn't be too much to worry about.
The chicken population has suffered while I was loose and the Texas Bureau of Ice Cream Affairs will soon announce their plan to deal with the shortage of Blue Bell Vanilla Bean ice cream. Good luck getting me back under that bridge.

You just brought back a flood of memories with the Blue Bell ice cream! Man, Texans sure know how to eat!! I also learned what "real" bbq tastes like! Now whenever we eat ribs and stuff I slather warm bbq sauce over it! Oh and the crawfish boil... my wife and I bought a 100lbs of it one time and had a bunch of folks over... I was sick of it for a while afterwards! I wish I knew you guys beforehand... we had several lbs left over!

Will you be checking out the Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake area at all?

It took you 14 minutes to re-post it, Jon. I guess that means you are scuh-rooooooood. At midnight, you will snore so hard you will suck in 3 flies, 12 mosquitoes, and a small cat. Between 1:00 and 4:20 a.m., you will awake to discover that you are now incontinent. Your CF roadie will turn to stone, almost as if it had looked Medusa in the eye. And every ride from now on will feature leaf angels, gravel angels, ashpalt angels, pine needle angels - you get the idea - all achieved after going ass over teakettles on one of your long-suffering bikes.
Hey, that's what you get for breaking the chain, man. But don't think we don't appriciate you taking one for the team, though.

Most likely. Right now I'm staying near downtown in Old East Dallas, however, as time permits, I want to get out that way and do some riding. I hear there's a good trail out near Grapevine for MTB riding. If you're out there and I plan on heading out there for a ride--and I plan on doing so since I have a friend with a car who wants to get into cycling (MTB for now) and he wants me to initiate him--I'll let you know and maybe we could hit a trail or something. My Koine Greek mentor lives out in Colleyville and I plan on getting together with him since I'm back.
If you want hills hook up with the guys at B&B Bicycles (http://bbbicycles.com/page.cfm?PageID=212) in Cedar Hill.
I did a training ride with them a couple of times last year, the son of the owner is a Cat 2 or 3 rider, and they took us on some killer hills. Ask them about this one hill called "The Wall". I was too weak to try it but I heard it's short but very steep. And they are really cool there.
And since you're out there look up the Hotter-n-Hell 100 (http://www.hh100.org/). It truly lives up to it's name!
