Great! BTW, were you having problems with front, rear or both?

sounds like stressed rims. this happens with lower end wheel sets when you inflate them with more than the rated pressure.

I think the pinging (keep in mind, it's minor pinging...like a bug was flicking the spokes. Hardly noticeable, but embarrassing, nonetheless) was only on the rear, and seemed to happen only on climbs.

I got a call late yesterday, and the wheels are done!

And to think I got them for less than $500 out the door!! I know they may be lower end, but IME, no rim should fail like those pics of the Bontrager Selects. You can get Mavic Open Pros for pennies, and the spokes won't pull through.

I put in 110 psi into both wheels/tires.

According to socalcycling. I can't wait to itemized for him what I paid for my frame, groupset, etc. It's nice to be told you're a cheap *******.

That is what I did...OPs and Ultegra hubs..32 spoke...I am much happier and feel way safer...

So...I went for a ride yesterday, and I am shamed no longer. No pinging, no catastrophic failure of spokes, no smelly discharge.

At first, I thought all Trek did was squirt some Tri-flow on the spokes, then I noticed that my tires had been shifted on the rim (I line up the tire logo with the wheel logo...very Monk-ish of me), and now they're all Fred and cattywampus. Also, as a real roadie, I take off the tube valve caps...and Trek gave me two free ones.

Also, my front wheel had a little un-true-ness at one point, and now they are dead straight.

Total damage: $15 for 'Wheel Labor'.

All in all, a fine experience, and I'm satisfied. Would do bidness with Trek Kearney Mesa again.
