I drink it straight . . . like a man. I prefer the ones with names like "rain", "Ice", "Thunder" and "Carbon Fiber".
I heard that "Carbon Fiber" Gatorade is fortified with real Carbon Black. YUM!

These would be the Gators who beat Ohio State in both the football and basketball national championship games? So what is it that the Buckeyes (aka horse chestnuts) drink? (So we will know to avoid it.)

I like it, diluted half and half with water. Freeze half a bottle of Gatorade, fill it on up with water and take with me riding.
Lately, I've been using unsweetened KoolAid powder mixed with sugar and lite salt. Found the recipe online somewhere. Just as good for electrolytes and glucose as Gatorade, and I like the taste better. Much cheaper, too.

Gatorade Endurance is pretty good....it is not a sweet tasting...good for multiple bottles in my opinion....I also carry a tube of Nuun with me. Pop a tablet in some water and your good to go...easy and convenient and the taste is not over the top....

I use Heed or Cytomax. Frankly, nothing tastes all that good when it's been on the bike for 30 mins or more in the sun. Tepid. But, it sure beats dehydrating or its brother, bonking.

Nope. I could do without some of the protein drinks, though. I'm watering down Gatorade these days, but after being in the Navy, there's a lot that my internals can still tolerate.

On longer rides, Gatorade is helpful. But I add the Hawaiian sea salt to it to make sure I don't get cramps and lose too much natural salt by sweating.

The flavor can be modified with additives of your own choice. The natural lemon or lime squeeze will usually do the trick. At some coffee shops like the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Co. they sell powdered vanilla additive. That will make the orange Gatorade taste more like a orange sherbet drink.

Gatorade is inexpensive. If you go to Walmart, they sell the powdered version in the orange container. A good value.

I use the Polar bottles and fill them with ice then add the gatoraide. My bottles stay cold for about 1.5hrs and still have a small amount of ice left at 1hr. They don't really get warm until hour 3. I hate warm liquid.

Trust me. You have nowhere near the hate for the swamp lizards that I do. But the stuff works and is readily available, so I drink it.

After riding for three hours the other day, and having consumed only water to that point, I stopped for lunch and had a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes with gravy. Along with drinking three 12 ounce glasses of water. All for just $4.55.

That sure tasted better than Gatorade.
Hey Tom,

When I was in Wisconsin on vacation I rode mainly in the north (Vilas County). But I did have a great drive in a convertible from Madison to your area for dinner one night - looks like beautiful riding country. We had a very nice dinner in a small town outside of New Glarus - Monticello maybe? Can't remember but a nice restaurant with some nice fabric art. Maybe next summer I'll schedule some riding on those nice hills you have.:)

I usually like the first bottle, tolerate the second, and gag down any after that. A couple things I found that help- mix it a little strong, and add 3/8 tsp salt to each 24 oz bottle.
I gnerally take two bottles along- one water, one 'ade, and enough mix premeased in baggies to let me mix up as many more 'ade bottles as I'll need. I drink some 'ade, then rinse with water.

When they come out with the champagne, white burgundy, or prosecco flavor, please let me know. Until then, I'm staying away.

Wow . . . y'all are tough.
I don't love Gatorade, but, when you pull into a convenience store needing something to wet your whistle, amongst the available choices, I think Gatorade stacks up ok. The taste isn't great, but, it's not terrible, either . . . especially if you buy the stuff really cold.

The only flavor I have ever used is the Orange . . . and I will take it 32 oz at a time.

Each to his/her own, however.

It's a good thing it wasn't designed at Florida State or it would have been called Seminole Fluid

Maybe it's "wrong," but when I pull into a convenience store during a bike ride, I get orange juice. Love it. :)

I can tolerate Gatorade dilouted. I've found that the generic diet orange soda sold in the local Safeway is cheaper then G'ade, tastes better, and dilutes just as well.

I'd go with something like that, but I find that it's tough for me to stomach carbonated drinks while on the bike.

I love orange juice too. But Gatorade is actually better for you for hydration. It has half the calories of oj, more electrolytes and less acid. A sports doctor told me that if you are going to drink fruit juices, then they should be diluted to 50% juice or less. OJ has as many calories per ounce as Coke & Pepsi.

Too bad we can't really get away with having a wine or champagne in the water bottles. I'd make much less noise in the stoker's compartment if I had some Vinho Verde in that bottle. ;)

Give me Cytomax anyday. I prefer that Tang-flavored one. At about 2/3 strength.

I have no scientific data with which to support my claim. I just know what I like.

I'm not big on experimenting with my hydration/nutrition supplements. I know what I like, and use those products as one would wear a comfortable pair of shoes.

To each his or her own.

Monticello is about 5 miles south of New Glarus. They do have a better than expected restaurant there, called simply "The Dining Room." It got a 4 star rating from a Milwaukee newspaper. A couple of other restaurants aren't bad either. All in all, rather surprising for a rather dumpy looking little town.

There are a lot of hills in the area, bikers who like hills come here to ride them from all over the Midwest. If you go west of Madison, you run into miles upon miles of hills.

Hey, I was only responding to the friendly bobby c.

I should have added that on my last trip to Monticello, I stopped at the grocery store and bought a Gatorade. And while I don't usually like the taste, it was cold and I was thirsty, so it went down quickly.

OK - I'll stay on topic. On my last trip to Monticello (and it was the Dining Room), I had a nice Spanish Red. It wasn't cold and it was tasty.

Of course, it should be diluted 50% for your water bottles. :)

I sure do. Stuff tastes like... well, never mind. But I can't even gag it down.

I love the lemon/lime flavor, diluted to taste. The regular strength is too sweet for me.

I have used Pedialyte and prefer the taste over Gatorade, but its kinda pricy. I usually mixed it 50/50 with water. I am not sure what the differences are electrolytes, carbs, etc between that and Gatorade. Now I am going to go home and compare the two.

Gatorade is my drink, ever since they started going around in about 1970 to college and high school football teams giving out lots of free samples and the large free drink cooler.

I am still mad that they dropped the cherry flavor.

I sure do. Stuff tastes like... well, never mind. But I can't even gag it down.I'm ok with the orange flavor. It beats plain water on long, hot, workouts. The "rain" flavor has practically no taste. It's like drinking water.

If you don't like Gatorade, try Pickle Juice. I tried a bottle of that after my last long ride and after drinking half a bottle of that (all I could swallow) I now think Gatorade is the nectar of the gods.

I agree about the pickle juice and I like Gatorade Endurance formula. It's not too sweet, easy to drink and for people like me who leave a lot of salt stains on their jerseys I think it's the right drink. Watching the TDF, I've been curious about Accelerade but the sodium level is low compared to most of the other drinks and I doubt it would work for me on long, hot rides like the Hotter n' Hell 100 next month.

I love it. +1 on better than Powerade. Gatorade has as sweeterner and carbohydrate source glucose, sucrose and fructose. Powerade has high fructose corn syrup. I am anti voluntary intake of high fructose corn syrup, which I blame in part for helping with the fattening of America because it is so cheap and in nearly everything.

I didn't know that, I was hoping someone did,, thanks for the info.

Actually I think it makes me gain weight, but I can't prove it, yet..
