Ball valves are too restrictive. Their friction coefficients and smaller orifice size restrict fluid transport, whereas Gate Valves open completely, allowing the deluge to flow unimpeded.
So, yeah, I requested the gate valve.

Kidding. All went well, but I'm still looking for the mule that le' punch'ed my coque.
It's a very peculiar feeling, this. I have found that 20 minutes with peas, followed by 30 minutes of recovery, 20 minutes of corn, and 30 minutes of recovery, is the perfect regimen. But, yeah, getting up to do anything feels like I was doinked by a football.
Thanks, all, for the well wishes. My appt was at 7:15 am, and I was done by 8:15, and out the door. (No, apparently I can't add at all, according to my countdown post yesterday...d'oh.)
The worst part was the needle. It was huge, and took all of my manly manitude not to flinch, cover up, or suckerpunch the doctor. After the numbification, all I felt were odd pulls, pokes, and 'maneuvers'. It didn't hurt, but was still annoying.
Also, there was a female nurse...which was weird...since I can probably count on one hand how many women have seen my junk that I wasn't either 'intimate' with or...y'know...flashing at some party. But there I was, taped and 'painted' with disinfectant, and she comes waltzing in with this huge spotlight.
For nesdog: Non-scalpel, open ended. No sperm granuloma for me, thanks.
did you see "the smoke"??

No, and I was disappointed...he used a 75w Radio Shack soldering iron and everything.
/actually, it was a cauterizing wire thing, but I didn't get a good look at it, and the Doc didn't overcook the penne.

The correct tool for valving balls is a ball valve. Idiot.
Don't come complaining when you go for the trophy wife and the valve is corroded shut.

A. Just because you know nothing of hydraulics and hydrodynamics, doesn't mean you can call me an idiot...jerk.
B. If I go for the trophy wife, who in their right mind would ruin that by getting her pregnant?
ps. My wife is my trophy wife, and will be when she's 80...if doing this means more doing that, then I'm cool with it.
