Introductions - New to biking, been a fan for a while!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I love the Tour, and watching it. I have always been interested in the sport but have never had the opportunity or the time. . . (lame excuse I know.) but now I am headin' off to school and figure that biking will be the best way for me to get around. Just got a hold of some second hand road bikes, gonna peice them together and see where I can go from there. Any words of advice or hints for a complete newbie? Anything would be appreciated! Look forward to learning a lot from this forum and from my experiences on two wheels!

Welcome HoTai to Bike Forums!

A lot of people will make an old road bike into a singlespeed or fixed gear bicycle. If you check out the SS/FG forum (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=178), you'll find lots of info. on how to do that. The Mechanics Forum (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=10) is very helpful, too.

Hello HoTai, it sounds as if you could stand to visit the Classic & Vintage forum, as well. Where are you located? Sometimes Craigslist/thrift shops/garage sales offer a great used older bike that can be made very useful with just a few dollars worth of work.

Welcome to BF!
