Cyclocross - 07' JtS creaking crank or BB?

Do JtS owners experience the same annoying problem with creaking brank or BB? I tried tightening the BB cups and all the bolts on the cranks... but it's still creaking. It mostly happens when my candence is high and when I am pushing down on the drive side pedal. Any help is appreciated.

Noticed this post in the forum header. Is this a Truvativ crank? I have a Jake, and had a similar problem. The left crank eventually came loose, and wouldn't stay tight after I cranked it down. Research "truvativ loose crank" in mechanics forum and google, and you'll find a consistent theme:
The crank and spline wasn't properly installed. Seems its not the mechanics, but the manufacturer didn't provide specific instructions that the crank arm needed to be seated to a certain level and visually verified in addition to torque.
I called the LBS I got mine from, and they said they'd seen a lot of them and that they'd order a new left crank arm (under warranty) right away as mine is probably damaged. If you get yours in quick, it might be an easy fix for them, but one I wouldn't try myself without the service bulletin.
Hope this helps.

I've also seen two Truvativ Elita cranksets come unbonded from the bb on the drive-side. It will creak terribly on each drive-side pedal stroke, and if you look right at where the hollow bb meets the crankarm, you can flex it and see the movement.

I have Gossamer compact double. I took it in to my LBS, and it stopped creaking for about 30 min, and that was probably because the wind prevented me from hearing it. I will check to see where the BB meets the crankarm has any play or movement...
This is mighty annoying... If I can't solve it myself, I might bring it in again to see if my LBS can do anything about it...
If you guys were to recommend a replacement BB and crankset all together, what would be a good choice... nothing too pricey... Thanks.

Well, if it's an '07 I'd be talking warranty replacement with the shop I bought it from.
Otherwise, one of the Shimano or Campy offerings (I've found their chainrings to be stiffer).

I am about to build my next bike and the bb has been an issue for me. My original dept store bike bb went bad after the first real rain it experienced. I replaced it with a Shimano UN53 because it had sealed bearings and was cheap. It has since gone 9K miles and sat through many heavy rains here in South Florida. Many rainrides as well. This is my commuter.
Surly is offering complete bikes in Crosscheck and LHT. They use the UN53 with Sugino cranksets. I am considering building a Nashbar Cyclocross frame with the UN53 or UN54 and the Nexave 411T crankset.
If, Surly is using the UN53, the same bb that I have had great mileage and weather resistance, then I have to reccomend it too.
This is for the frugal bike builder!
