My friend in Sacramento has Versus HD but says it's not being broadcast in HD. I believe he's with Comcast. Is anybody in the US getting it in HD?

Unless the host broadcaster is sending out an HD feed then all you will get is a standard feed on an HD channel.

We're in the Chicago area. We are getting it in HD on Comcast. Nice.

Yep, El Diablo's right. There's no way you'll get it in HD. The French TV feed is sent wirelessly from the motorcycles to the helicopter and then again beamed to the main base at the finish. The bandwidth required to send an HD feed would be too great for that. Also I'm not sure if they even make HD cameras that could be comfortably held on a motorcycle.

They do make small-format HD cameras, but it's the microwave link from the motos to the helicopters and back down again that's the problem. Unlikely they're spending the money trying to get an HD signal to do that. Also it's transmitted live all over the world, it would add tremendous cost and complexity to do that HD.

Upconverted standard def signals can look pretty good, and that's probably what Chicago area is seeing. I read that tv coverage in Europe was "HD", too: an upconverted sd signal.
