Foo - Tossing and Turning :(

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
For the last several weeks, I've been tossing and turning at night. I'm getting "enough" sleep, but I wake up several times throughout the night to "change position" (jokes are too easy on that one ;) ). My bed is very comfortable, I'm not hot/cold, and when I do wake up, I normally go back to sleep within 5 minutes or so. I get plenty of exercise... actually, it seems like the more exercise I get, the more I wake up during the night--it's increased as I've been riding my bikes more and more.
Just curious - anybody else have this rather annoying issue? I don't think sleep aids are the answer.
I do too, especially since I've been doing heavy labor. I wake up 4-5 times every night, and I wake up feeling tired still. Sometimes I can fall back asleep easily and sometimes it takes me quite awhile.

I have an idea...but kinda personal....I'll PM you.
I always have problems sleeping but they have been worse lately. Up until recently I did not drink anything but water. Well, I've been slipping in a sprite here and there lately. Every time I have a sprite after around 7:00 pm I wake up constantly. I think it is from having the sugar close to bed time. Have you started drinking a coke or kool aid or something like that? Eating cookies, etc, etc?
I'm sure it probably isn't your problem but I'm just throwing something out there.

You've been hanging out on Foo too much. It happens to all of us! :p
Sleep aids are the answer.
Check out taking Valerian Root, Hops, or maybe a sleep relaxing mix of herbs in liquid tincture form.

I try to exercise not too close to bed-time. I find if I get exercise of any sort after 8pm, the adrenaline keeps me up at night. Also I may drink too much water afterwards and having to pee wakes me up in the middle of the night.
Try some melatonin before going to bed.

I'm an old man, getting up to pee is a given. :o

Well, I have a similar issue but it runs in the family, as we get older, we sleep less - I sleep about 5 hours a night.
After a lot of exercise I feel uncomfortable, not exactly sore, just uncomfortable. This disturbs my sleep at times.

Melatonin used to work for me when i worked nights. now I either drink a couple of beers or hit my sleeping pills (not to mention pot which isn't legal everywhere :D)
Although last night I tried without any aids and I slept like a pile of crap.

Yes, yesterday I had to look in the mirror for 15 minutes while my hair was being cut. I was looking long and hard for any hairs that could be classified as not over the hill - no such luck. :o

Yup, something is wrong with my mirror though. Some old fat guy is in there looking back at me. :(

For The Win. Took me awhile too. :)

That happened to me when I started using magnesium...if I take it in the morning, it helps me sleep great later. If I take it anytime after dinnertime, it makes me so restless at night!
Anything on your mind?

That's what I need... Bake & Bed! Thanks Mael you're a genius!
I always thought it was F*ck the world...
I thought it was just WTF backwards. For The Win makes more sense though.
What time do you get up and what time do you go to bed? My personal belief is that if you can't sleep, you aren't tired enough. Try getting up earlier in the morning, couple that with lots and lots of riding, and you should end up hitting the pillow, and passing out until the alarm clock goes off.

I used to take Meletonin when I had to work nights and sleep during the day.
No problem sleeping, but I used to wake up groggy and had a headache afterwards.

Sounds a lot like Jack Daniels.
Sorry I know what its like to not sleep well.
I wished I had some major suggestion but for me well I just started to sleep good again. Now its like I go to bed and before I know it the alarm is going off.

Be warned, if you start doing this consistently you won't be recreational anymore. I end up falling asleep if I have a puff with friends now hahaha But it does make for an awesome sleep and some wicked dreams.
On a serious note.. I remember you having a pet.. any chance it's waking you up? I know my cats do..
Well, my dog sleeps next to my bed on the floor, which happens to be next to the bedroom door. Whenever he shakes his head, his ears occasionally flap against the door, scaring the hell out of me. But that only happens every once in a while. ;)
Portis - I go to bed around 11:00 and wake up at 7:00. Thanks for the suggestion of waking up early, I might try that. :)
Yes, I think we all know you're getting some...
 Yeah, I think that's what I actually need.
