I know someone just asked about the opposite scenario. I want to have a bike powdercoated and imagine I'll reduce my costs a bit if I have them do one color and then paint little parts (headbadge area, lugs, pehaps some other details) in a contrasting color myself by masking everything off. Not knowing better, this sounds reasonable to me but is this a bad idea?

It's a fine idea. Some people I know will do a base in poweder, the detail work in liquid enamel/lacquer and then an acrylic clear coat.

Thanks, SSD! Just to be clear, do they apply the acrylic clear coat to everything including the powdercoat?
