I've been keeping an eye out for a replacement for my "cargo bike" for a while. The current one is a dept store MTB (FS Elite Gand Teton) with a large back rack and wire baskets. I was intending to replace it with a better quality MTB. So, yesterday I got a thrift shop bike. It's a Univega Rover 2.7. But I think the frame may be a bit small for me. I'd have to jack the saddle and bars up quite a bit.

What I'm thinking now is to just strip it to frame and transfer the components to the current cargo bike. The dérailleurs and trigger shifters are Shimano Altura and look to be in good working order. The current bike has crappy Shimano SIS (that I use in friction mode 'cause it's impossible to keep the indexing adjusted). It has decent aluminum rims and an 8 speed cassette. The current one has steel rims and a 7 speed. I'm hoping the bottom bracket and crank set will transfer over too. It has a 3 piece crank set while the beater has a 1 piece. I may be able to get a bearing set that will press into the 1 piece shell.

It'll be nice to have a bike project to work on for a while.
