Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Confession

I have two bikes. One is an old trek that I got new a decade ago.

The other is a hoop-d that I bought for commuting and theft prevention. It was built in the 80s. It has a milk-crate attached. It's made by some manufacturer I never heard of.




I prefer my hoop-d.

It is, what it is!! If you like and ride it, that's all that matters.

Curious to see the manufacturer. I hadn't heard of Kalavinka or 3Rensho, either, until I moved to Redmond, where there's a velodrome 2 miles from my house. Who knows... You might have something really awesome and not even know it.
Then again, it could just be a really comfy PoS beater bike. Either way, you win. :)

I have a confession too. I have not ridden yet this week. Sucks because I wanted to, but Mon there was lightning in the am and I had to go out with family in the pm. Tonight I need to mow, but I may have to just mow soooopah fast and then talk the wife into going for a ride. Wish me luck.

The advice that everyone gives in the "what should I buy" posts is just as applicable here. I don't think it matters if you buy an X-Mart bike or a $5000 carbon bike - fit is key. Now, I should probably moderate that statement by saying that the quality of workmanship will probably improve fit, performance, and longetivety of the bike, but what really makes a great bike is one that you are excited to go ride every day. So, if someone mocks you for riding your $100 special, you can blow it off knowing that you are enjoying your ride.

As long as we're confessing, I have an Atlantis and a Rambouillet, both set up exactly as I wanted them, and I literally can't think of one thing I'd change on either one.
But when I just want to go for a ride, about 50 percent of the time I hop on an old Trek touring bike that I turned into a single speed by stripping it and replacing the freewheel with a one-cog BMX one.

I'll post some pictures later. It's a "Gold Eagle." It also says "City Bike" on the frame, but has this really ornate logo on the front with a, well, gold eagle.

Hey, I know the feeling. I prefer my MTB over my roadie, but I still ride the roadie all the time anyway. Maybe out of guilt? :)
