I made my first bike commute today. I work 7am-7pm on sundays I normaly just oversleep rather then ride in. On friday my car broke down and it won't be ready to monday. I truly enjoyed the ride in I was wide awake by time I got to work and refreshed. I think I will make it a point to wake up early and ride in every sunday now. I road my fuji track bike in (figured least likely to be stolen). It's not feasible to ride in monday-thursday due to I have to take my son to school etc.. I just made one mistake forgot the key to my lock, so put the lock on like it was locked (won't engage without key).. and used bunch of zip ties to secure bike. I was constantly checking it during the day.

I got a thumbs up from some kid in a car on my ride home. Kids seem to like my new track bike. Got thumbs up the day before from another kid in the car. Last week a kid ridding a motored scooter thing, was asking me questions about my bike while we were stopped at a red light.

Good one, Kev. It only takes a couple of trips and you start thinking...

Soon you'll have figured out a way to accommodate your son's needs, too, and still commute by bike. How old is he? Is it feasible for you to ride together? Is he young enough for a trailer? Or maybe a trail-a-bike attached to yours? Or are the roads to/from school just too difficult?

No pressure, just some thoughts to get you going :)

I thought about the trail-abike we have one and go riding on the weekends. He is 6 years old right now, tues-thursday I work 1pm -7pm and have to take him to my ex-wife during my lunch since his school closes at 6pm. And monday 7am-7pm (I have weird schedule).. And since ex-wife does not drive leavs me to drive him. I wish I could figure out a way to do it, would be fun. Maybe next job or if I switch to a better schedule.

Ah ha! You *have* been thinking about solutions. Good on you. Give it time. Something will emerge... even a couple of years from now.
