Hey, I'm coming back from a torn tendon and i need to get in shape for a 500 mile ride. We'll be averaging about 25 mph. I'm riding a Trek 7300FX(hybrid). Right now i can hold about 15-17 mph for 40 miles(thats the farthest i've ever ridden). I need to know what kind of training i need to do. The only grade on the trail that i know of is 13%.
Grabbing a beer and settlin' in....

Oh heck easy. In fact I'd practice your downhilling more than your beer drinking. You don't wanna be stopped by a cop doing 45 in a 30 while drunk. In fact, you could probably reach 67mph after 40 miles of 13% grade. Just make sure you rest every two hours.

thanks for the laughs, i've been informed that 25mph avg for 500 miles is unrealistic. SO i will modify it to 15-17 mph avg for 500 miles.
I just finished a 535mile ride with a average speed of 23mph, so I don't think it that unrealistic. Just kidding, that was a joke. Anyways, I'm not sure if this is a non stop trip, over a few days trip, or just a joke but good luck.
The only difficulty you will have is finding the route that is 13% down for 500 miles. The rest is easy. Forget training, just put on as much weight as possible. Gravity is your friend.
Don't forget to post a trip report afterwards.
