I have a 14mm wheelset I picked up in a trade a while back but I do not have a frame that has the 14mm dropouts to run them. So do you think it would be worth it to enlarge my rear dropouts on my 98 vertigo frame and get a 14mm fork so I can run them? I'm short on cash right now and have seen some other people do this but I'm not sure I should bother since the frame is 1" threaded rather then 1 1/8" threadless. Would you bother with it?

yeah, if the dropouts are big.

Seems like there is no reason not to. Sorry, but your bike sounds a bit ghetto, so your not going to lose much if it totally doesn't work. I have a feeling it will work just fine anyway...

If i was you, i would just slot the axle so it fits into the dropout, especially if it's a solid 14mm axle. Rather then weaken the frame. 14mm slotted axles will still be stronger then 3/8" if you slot them, so think about doing it that way.

Yeah I was thinking maybe try sloting the axle first and see if I like it and then if I like it and never intend to go back to 3/8" I can just get a new axle and widen the dropout if I want.
