Road Bike Racing - First Race - Team Dayton Training Crit

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It rained before the race so there the turnout was down. There wasn't enough B's to have our own race so they just combined everyone into the A race. There was only about 15-16 guys all together. Someone had to step up and be the only one there in plane jane kit, so I did it.:)
- 50 min. plus 3 laps
- I stayed loose and went around corners really fast. That was fun.
- I had no problems going through the corners with others. That was fun too.
- I got dropped after 11 minutes. That was not fun.
- Sat up and got back on when they came back bye. Stayed on much longer. More fun.
- Got dropped at min. 30. Not fun.
- Tried to get back on but only lasted a lap and a half. Also, not fun.
- Solo'd at 20 for awhile to give myself some time to recover. WOW I'm soft pedaling at 20.
- Got back on at min. 45. Stayed on until last lap when things went crazy. Lots of fun.
- I had one heck of a 50+ min. workout. Did 20 miles. Average HR was 170, max. HR was 187.
Buying the USCF stuff tomorrow and going back on Sunday for there yearly race. At least it will only be Cat 5's. I guess that could be good or bad. I'll be trying to stay near the front for that one but getting dropped agian isn't out of the question.:)
That's all. Thanks for all the tips that you guys post on this forum every day, I'm sure reading them helped me to stay vertical.

You did fine Shayne. My first times out there a few years ago, I was getting dropped from the B's in 15 minutes. The A's, as you saw, were pretty fast being a 1,2,3 group. Once you get the regular B's out there, it's not so brutal.

Hmm - my first time there two years ago I solo'd away from the B group winning by a half lap. It's been downhill ever since. :o
Nice to have you out there last night Shayne. Good luck Sunday!
Yeah, you're the one that was droping the hamer on me. :D
My legs are pretty stiff today, so I've got to say that crit racing is definitely a good workout. I'm sure it'll make me a stronger cyclist. No big news to you guys though.
Thanks for the well wishes, see you out there.

Congrats on the first race. Sounds like you did great. Let us know how Sunday goes, and good luck!

I was the tall guy in a red top with hairy legs. Also I was riding a red Lemond.
No biggy on thowing-up, after all, didn't you warn everyone before the start.:) What race would you have been in if they wouldn't have combined them? I was lead to believe that there was only 4 or 5 B's there. I know of four, including myself and two of them are pretty close to going Cat 3. Both are pretty strong and offered me some pretty good advice.

yeah, it was weird, i did like 20 miles with dan before the crit and felt fine. it kinda came out of nowhere. oh well. i typically race in the a group (i am a cat 4, but so close to cat 3 that it kills me). i am usually not as bad as i was yesterday.
i remember you from the race, which is to say that i could not recognize you if i saw you in real life, but will easily spot you and your bike at a ride. kind of that biker clark kent/superman effect. you should definately race on sunday, and don't sweat the hairy legs. you seemed pretty strong for a guy that doesn't shave.:p

It was good riding with you for awhile at Oakcreek. You have plenty of power for Harversburg. Stay in those drops and out of the wind no matter what.

Yea that was fun last night while it lasted. That Jamie guy has some crazy speed. Normally when I want to ride at 34-35mph I just go find a hill to go down. :) I ended up getting in 44 miles at 20.1, did some nice pulls in the wind and pretty much blew up the last 10 miles. Luckly our good samaritan biker, Dennis came back and picked us stragglers up.
