Alright,

I've been riding bikes for a long while... loved them. moved to baltimore city.. found out about this "fixed gear" phenomenon 2 years back. My dad found a bike in the garbage... late 80's/early 90's Duracycle (nova-27) fit what i needed (solid frame-vertical dropouts, blah blah)

a few weeks ago, I consulted a few friends of mines that ride fixed gear bikes and I finally decided to put my credit card to use and threw a bunch of random sheez on it to build this thing.. finished it a few days ago. I'm 100% hooked on it.. i love it. I ride for no damn reason now.

It's actually a solid frame and i cleaned it up and looks damn good at night under city lights (haha). I HATE MY HANDLEBAR/Brake setup... It's the normal/generic Road Bike from the late 80's setup with the (for lack of better works) C formation. For sake of saving money and I like/have riden bikes with the flipped and chopped version of these handle bars (some people call them "bullhorns" I think). I have an extra one (aquired it from a friend) so I can practice/work on cutting these handlebars all I want and still be able to ride my bike.

I have a hacksaw and I was told to cut at the point where the curve starts going straight (which is a very small spot im guessing). I have cork tape, and a Time Trial Brake Lever (TekTro RX 4.1 Reverse Brk Lever).

I know next I need a Short Reach Caliper correct? I just want a front.. i keep looking online and all i see is a the pair and i can't find just the front. Also what kind of brake cable should i get?

I just need some options here and for someone to point me in the proper direction. Let me know!

Thank you (in advance) for not flaming me for being a newbie... i see these forums are pretty damn harsh. HOLLERS!

Short Reach refers to the length from the brake mount in the fork to the braking surfaces on the rims. You need the same reach of your current calipers - in fact, assuming they don't suck, I'd just use the caliper you have.

Someone else can offer info about the lever - I don't know what it takes to put a TT lever in flop and chop bars.

When you say c formation you're referring to drop style handlebars.

yeah, i have the "drop style" handle bars. the ones most common on those 80's road bike's.

So i should just run my old one? it's pretty old... im not really a fan of it, i just want to redo it all. let me know!
