Alt Bike Culture - Chopper Church freakbike workshop!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
We are putting together a freakbike workshop and I was wondering if anybody out there has done something similar. We will have use of our local bike collectives tools, parts and even bikes. There will be at least two welders and hopefully plenty of grinders, reciprocating saws and stuff, but we are expecting 10+ people to show up. We will have access to the facilities for as long as we want to stay. Any tips on how to make it a success?

in my experience, encourage everyone to show up with something in mind, and have all the parts prepped as much as possible.
otherwise folks will show up, weld two frames together, then lose motivation to go out and find parts that fit. Or folks will show up and spend the whole day doing nothing creative, just stripping bikes down to frames.

Yeah, I think that's a good point. I would hope people would have the sense to strip bikes down before coming (assuming they have the ability) but I'll be sure to make that recommendation.

sweet, your friends must be smarter than mine :) Have a blast!
hey, you don't know billy golden do you? He was one of the Orginal Seven zoobombers, and I'm pretty sure he lives in salt lake. He also invented the assaccre! He is in the Hood-to-Coast video over here: http://zoobomb.net/video-index.html

How did it turn out?
Turn out was lame, but we may have picked a bad weekend. People keep coming up to me and telling me to do it again, so I guess we will. I started work on a pedicab and it will be really cool if it actually works. I need to post some pictures, stay tuned.
