Hoping to tap into the vast mechanical knowledge here, with a very simple question. I'm in the process of putting together a commuting ride, with parts I've had around for years.
The bike is a ~ 1976 Motobecane Mirage that is in great shape. I bought an aluminum Blackburn rear rack ~ 10 yrs ago, and it came with 'mounting hardware', which consists of two sets of allen-head bolts and their nuts. The bottom carrier arms fit fine on the 'mating loops' at the rear dropouts, but where and how the front ('seat-tube') arms are to be attached is a mystery to me. There are no 'mating loops' that could be used to attach the forward part of the carrier, on the bike frame itself; the 'mounting hardware' bracket must be for some configuration present on a newer bike, but there is no way it can be used with an older set-up. I've been checking bikes with the 'old-school' Blackburn racks, on the street, just to see how they are mounted, and they all seem to involve some convoluted set-up using either a seat-tube clamp, or some 'sandwhich' type mount, all involving a lot of metal.
I've searched the net for these brackets, and anything simpler, without success.
Can anyone set me straight on a manufacturer who supplies what should be a simple bracket for a simple problem?
