What is the strangest thing you have seen on the road while cycling?

I say this frog/toad on the road. It was the size of a small football. I live in SoCal, I didn't think we had anything like that here. I had to stop to make sure it was alive. It was huge!

A bike saddle.

Someone rode home without it?!

Must be the same one who showed up on my 2nd-floor doorstep. He's stalking cyclists.

That's him! or her.

The bike saddle is not that strange, this is SoCal and there are all types. I don't care what ever makes people comfortable.

Dead skunk with it's white stripe almost aligned with the white stripes on the road.

White towels.

On two separate occasions, Joel and I have seen perfectly clean white towels on the side of the road and in the middle of the road: Hemet Double Century and Cruisin' the Canejo.

I've seen too many dead dogs. Not coyotes, not mutant-squirrels, not cats with dog haircuts...man's best friend.

Oh, and a 2' dildo, disguised as a rattlesnake. It was coiled up, but it's vibrating end was still going, so it's batteries hadn't died yet.

A boot stuffed with flowers (where a motorcyclist was killed)...seems an odd shrine.

7 cracked toilets, 2 refridgerators, a 4 cylinder engine block, a "migrant worker" fixing his messed-up bike chain with a stick...I asked, "Esta Bien?" and he said, "Si".

I've seen a lot of shoes lately, and not just one random lost shoe, but a pair, first one, then the next half a mile down the road.

Ok, really weird stuff, true story. Like 3 weeks ago I was cruising down the coast and was just south of Solana Beach. I noticed a lot of those little plastic cups things full of hot sauce you get from the taco shop spilled out on the side of the road, had to be like 20 of the little things. As I continue on, I keep seeing more and more, like a freakin' trail of bread crumbs of something. Seriously, this continued on for like 3 miles, it must have a taken a few hundred of these little cups of hot suace. Strange, just really strange.

There's a lizard that I've surprised twice at the same spot on my daily commute, but never been able to get a picture of. :(

I saw a deer up on GMR. :) It was alive. It was on the lower half while i was making my descent. I came around one of the switchbacks and it lept over the side as i was passing.

During a century ride in Utah last month, we looked up to see these fine animals running towards us. I braced for the stampede but then this guy on a tracker whistled and they all moved over.......who knew sheep were trained :)

I saw a group of five deer in the residential Burbank hills one evening. It is not uncommon to see one or two. I am always concerned about the descent as they tend to run across the street at the most inconvenient times.

Then there was that ride when N2Glock ran over a condom and tore up his tire. Same Burbank hills too.

Dead deer belly up with legs in the air...
...with a dog feasting on said belly.

I'm still trying to shake that image after 7 freakin years!

Okay, folks, this is the the "weird thing on the side of the road" thread - not, "roadkill - post what you've seen" thread. We have ALL seen dead animals and other animals eating them, sniffing them - hell, even humans picking them up for stew later - so, let's just stick to things like...Ovoleg...shall we? :p

On my commute home;
About $50.00 in change, mostly quarters and dimes.
I came around a corner and hit it, almost went down. It was like hitting a patch of ice.
I turned around, grabbed a few fistfuls and kept riding.
Next day it was all gone.

One night in the middle of Topanga Canyon;
A Toyota (or something like it), sitting on it's roof on the road shoulder.
Passenger and driver both inside, OK and hanging by the belts, smoking a dube.

Seems to me like someone was doing a study on how a cyclist falls to the ground. The $50 is to cover any medical bills.

As for me, it's a wooden broomstick in the middle of a long, clean and smooth bike path. I rolled over it at maybe 30mph, so I was a little scared and didn't bother to check if there's a game of quidditch going on above.

I told my wife not to park her ride on bike paths. :0

The other emu was making strange noises and staring me down and the picture I took of both of them wasn't very good. It's startling seeing a bird as tall as you are staring at you from the side of the road. Especially early in the morning.

OK, there is a theme here, and this is from MTB alone, all nice and quiet like.

Rode around a corner, and there was a cougar looking at me.
Sort of turned its head up and walked away. wasn't bothered until later that
afternoon, and realized I could have been lunch...

Saw a Bobcat jump across the trail with a fresh rabbit in it's mouth, now that was cool.

When I lived in Rancho Santa Marg, there is a trial where a Road runner would always
race me down the hill. As soon as I'd pass, it would jump out and run right next to me.
Dang their quick.

Just last weekend I say a large (2-3") wasp like thing draging an Tarantula into it's hole.
Kind of cool, didn't have the camera.

For those of you that ride Santiago canyon, look at the shoulder. About every so often there
is a Vodka pint bottle. Must be 30 or 40 of 'em. All the same brand, all in a similar place....

A while back, I was riding up thru a quiet neighborhood at night. Right as I was passing a parked ar, a naked chick about 20, jumped out of the car. I guess she didn't see or hear me coming. She placed her hands over herself, as much as she could and said, "Oh sorry!"...Didn't get any pictures though!:D

Same ride - a parked car doing a whole lot of shaking. Sure enough some guys large ***** could be seen through the window while passing by. busy gettin busy.

ME, after the last video post I had dreams of Scorpions in my room......

The critters are flying all around the hills, but leave people alone.
Never shown any interest in me at all.

Yahoo used to be my favorite....
They are now on the office Dan's "they Suck" list.
Everytime I search and image, it's on flicker ( should be " this is the LICKER") which won't allow post of pics...
