Northeast - Three Creek Century/Harrisburg, PA/Sept 16

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Here's another option for your calendars:

The Harrisburg Bike Club's annual century will be Sunday, Sept. 16. The ride has four options: 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles. There are two 25 mile loops (one relatively flat, the other somewhat hilly), and a 50 mile loop, all starting and ending at the same location (LeTort Park, Carlisle, PA).

Pre-registration ($15. by August 18, then $20 after that date - day-of registration is available as well). The entry fee covers lunch (very, very good - homemade chicken corn soup and baked goods donated by Bike club members and their families), well-stocked rest stops, snacks, cue sheets, and sag support.

It's a great ride! Beautiful countryside, not overwhelmingly crowded - and a perfect time of year to tackle a century.

Online registration will be available at Active.com (not sure if it's up yet. . . ); more info can be found at www.harrisburgbicycleclub.org

Any questions, shoot me a pm and I'll answer what I can!

Beth

This sounds like a good first road trip to check out!

If anyone is considering this ride I highly recommend it, I consider it the anti-LBC covered bridge ride. By that I mean you still get to see the beautiful back roads of PA, but you'll only be sharing the route with a couple of hundred other riders rather than the couple of thousand that show up for the covered bridge ride.
This is also a good ride if you come with a group with differing riding abilities. If some people only want to go 50 miles and others are thinking of doing 75 or a century then you can all do the 50 mile loop together and those who find that enough can relax and eat in the park while the more ambitious riders try to add on one or both of the two 25 mile loops.
This year I may actually break down and try the corn chowder.

Yup, what he said X2.

While I love doing the Bridge ride, this ride is exceptional. Beautiful, well prepared, not crowded, cooler time of year.

And do save room for the Chicken Corn soup :)

It's a great ride, Magellan - one of the definite high points in last year's rides. If the route is the same or similar, it'll go right by the entrance to King's Gap; while the route doesn't officially go up there, the view at the top is worth the 4 mile climb to get there.

Oh, and did I mention the homemade soup and baked goods? ;)
