Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Some low life piece of $hit stole my Specialized RockHopper two nights ago right out of my backyard.
The yard is fenced with a six foot block wall. So the a$$hole had to look over the wall just to see the bike. I'm assuming that the thief used the alley city garbage dumpster to climb up on. (I have sinced moved it from the other side of my property).
My S.O. gave me the bike for my birthday last year. I had it outfitted with a custom seat, handlebars, lights, a rack, a saddlebag, etc.
I checked Craigslist a few times but have not seen it listed.
This is very dissapointing.

This is why you must come IN my house to take my bikes. In my house, where I will shoot you.
Not a perfect solution, but one you might consider.
Sorry for your loss. Hope it turns up, alongside the rotting carcass of the thief.

My bikes live inside for the same reason. I believe 100% in the right to use deadly force against an intruder into one's home, not as a last but as a first resort.

I feel your pain. My fiancé's Felt T23 was stolen while our tri team were out on a run. It was locked up, but we unfortunately hadn't read C+'s review of locks. It must've taken 'em seconds to get through our lock. They rode off on hers, left mine behind, but with only a broken lock to protect it. I feel lucky to even have the one bike left.
We've checked every 2nd hand and bike store in Melbourne and are obsessively checking ebay, but it's gone.

Thanks for all the sympathies.
I appreciate it.

Hate to say it but most times when things are stolen it is by someone you know!
People either see things when they are at your house visiting and tell someone where it is and have them take it, or if you had work done recently the workers tip someone off! Loose lips sink ships!! I would say with the wall it was definately some who saw you put it back there or a worker or a friends friend!! Always be vigilent when people are around, times are tough alot of people are hurting OR jealous!

JoeSorry, but it happens all the time. ALL THE TIME. It even happened to my sister. Just because it's in your backyard doesn't mean it's protected. Lock your bike up when you're not on it, and bring it in at night.

Why did you leave it outside? Did you just forget? If so sorry that is a real bummer. I have left my bike out after washing it. It was there the next day! Guess my neighbors are honest.
If you left it outside on purpose then you were asking dor it.

Yeah, this is a sore point. For the first nine months or so I used to keep the bike in the living room next to the baby grand piano. Hey, they are both black. Kind of matched the color scheme, right? ;)
Well you know how some women are. My S.O. started complaining about it and would put it on the back patio. I should have resisted, but like I said, the block wall fence is over 6 feet high! I never thought that some a$$hole would actually climb over, take the bike, put the bike back over, and them climb back out. But I guess I was wrong. False sence of security.
I'm already looking at a replacement for the bike and trust me, it is now going to live in the house.

I'll bet she's feeling sheepish now. :D
Here's a good solution that should alleviate her feelings about the bike being inside:

I have these in my living room, and besides bringing the bike up off the floor, it's really kind of a nice minimalist sculpture, transforms the bikes into wall art...
My S.O. started complaining about it and would put it on the back patio.
That kind of thing would have never flown with me. Our bikes have always been kept inside.

Mine stays inside, but theftwise I'd have no worried about it being on hte back patio. The puppies can get there. (Did I mention the beta dog caught a racoon and carried it in his mouth like a cat with a mouse?). No worries about anyone taking my stuff out of the back yard. They are sweethearts, but dogs can smell when people are up to no good.

I feel your pain. I've had three bikes stolen growing up. I now keep my bike in my room. I also have a 16 inch Short Sword waiting for anyone who wants it that bad.

Blue Order, actually I have one of those racks. Never put it up though. It was going to go in the garage, but now I don't trust that either. Too easy to leave the door up.
I'll fit it in the house somehow.

You might post your city and a few details about the bike (like year, color etc.)
People in a few hundred mile radius can keep their eye on CL.
