Hey NCers.

My in-laws are thinking about moving to Hayesville, NC, and want my wife and I to visit on a regular basis.

My Father-in-law heard that there were some new trails in the planning stages in the immediate Hayesville area.

Does anyone live near Hayesville?

Has anyone heard of these planned trails?

My guess is they'll probably be some "Rails to Trails" type trails, but was hoping to get the 411 on the area.

Thanks

It is along 64 close to the N Georgia border. I hjave spent a lot of time up in that area hiking and it is very close to great road and mountain biking both.

Good white water is nearby as well.

Probably less than 1 hour from Tsali.

I would think it would be a great excuse to go visit or perhaps just move in. :D

I'd be happy to serve as a bit of a tour guide some time. It is one of my favorite areas to visit. ;)

Hey I don't live there but my mom does. When you go there, check out these cabins she has for rent...they are honestly incredible. My wife and I stayed there last summer.

Outdoor shower, hot tub, internet access(keep up on Bike Forums!) and an awesome view too.

Oh, and she's really cool too. It's in Franklin, not far from the Highlands, and also the Smoky Mountain National Park. It really is awesome down there.

Here's a link to her website:

The towns outside Smokey National park are complete toursist traps (to the north) and ugh, take such a long time to drive through

Yes, definitely avoid Pigeon Forge and Cherokee unless you're into that stuff and you have a lot of time, patience and money.

O.k., I've been to NC tons of times. Tsali, Pisgah, DuPont...etc.

I've also been in N GA, Unicoi, Elijay...etc.

I'm interested in some potential new trails being constructed in and around Hayesville specifically.

BTW, yes, Hayesville is almost due N of Hiawassee in N. GA.

Thanks for your reply's so far!

Any other info. is appreciated.
