Northern California - Show Us Your Ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Post a picture of your bike. I'm curious to see what everyone has. I'll start:
Here's a link in case the pic upload does not work. I want to work on this bike by adding clipless pedals and all that lovely stuff. I'm a newbie, if you have not been able to tell by now.

What a coincidence! Here's mine when I first got it. Since then I've "flipped it", changed saddles, lost some stickers, and added some scratches from the first couple weeks of learning clipless pedals. Oh, and I'm a Cal alum too! But, if I were to follow your naming convention, it would be CalBears93 which shows my age!

This is what I used my stock options for. I was fortunate to be in one of those successful startups ...

nice Treks, hey Alain, you don't live on Treasure Island do you? I used to know a DJ name Alain.

Nope not me. I grew up and currently live in the east bay (san ramon/danville). Just curious, did your "Alain" grow up in Union City? I only knew of one guy back in elementary school who shared the same name as me.

have no idea. oh well, i guess alain isn't as rare of a name as i thought

If only that were true when I was growing up. It was a pain having to explain to everyone new I met that it wasn't pronounced "elaine".

Go Bears! Nice bike. What kind of rims/tires do you have on your bike? It looks pretty cool.

The rims and tires in the photo are stock (Bontrager Race Lite Rims/Bontrager Race X Lite Tires). Currently, I'm riding on Michelin Krylion Carbon Tires.

Hmmmm, my stock rims feel cheap and I think I need to replace them ASAP. I don't want them to break on me. Anyone have any suggestions for a newbie for some good, but inexpensive rims?
By the way, alainp. I went to a high school named after some guy whose first name was Alain, so I am familiar with that name.

well, what's inexpensive? Can't really go wrong with Mavic Ksyriums, but you're looking at at least a few hundred. Or you can pick up a pair of Open pros with Ultegra hubs for under $200 sometimes when Performance has them on sale.
now the real question is, when are we having a big ass NorCal group ride?

BigSean, nice pics. What's holding up the Trek in the final shot? Did you photoshop it out?
Man... I feel like I got a dime store bike compared to you guys...
I just have a Specialized Allez Elite... sans the Carbonello stickers... (and I can't even take "the picture in front of the garage" correctly!)

I'm about to take delivery of a trek 5.2 in team disco colors, so there'll be at least three discovery bikes when we do the big cali ride :) I think I'm going to tape over the discovery logo though, I like the black and blue color scheme much better than the red, but not a fan of the logo since I'm really not trying to pretend I'm lance... pics to follow in a coupla days - can't wait!
My race bike, '00 Trek 5200:
My commuter, '89 Trek 660, converted to fixed gear:
My neo-retro bicicleta, '83 Caldaro Specialissima:
My tri bike, an '02 REI Trionfo:
My kid trailer-hauler and grocery getter, '89 (?) Specialized Rock Hopper:
And soon to come, an '83 Gazelle Champion Mondial.
Biopace chainrings for the win! I had a Trek 820 that looked a lot like that. My introduction to push button shifting from thumbshifters.
This is like a bling bling thread.. I'd post my ghetto bike, but I"m going to wait until I get some 'spinnas' on it, then I'll roll it out.
You laugh now, but I think I found a way to do it.. and it will be ghetto fabulous!!

+1, but it's too clean... for a mountain bike. :)
I've ridden mine so rarely, the layer of dust almost looks like mud

How long have you had your bent Spingineer? Some of the new equal wheel size bents with lighter frame materials are quite capable climbers. I like cross training my quads between the crank forwards and the bents, and hiking :)
I just recently moved from Boston to SF. My bike is finally ready today after shipping it out here... can't WAIT to pick her up after work!

I think it's interesting how the bikes are facing to the right in a vast majority of the photos. Maybe it seems natural because we read from left to right so bike pics should face the same direction?

You can see the chain, derailleurs, etc. when it's pointing in that direction.

"Official" pose is to have the drivetrain in view, chain on the big ring and little cog, cranks oriented so that the left crank arm is obscured by the seat tube or chainstay, and ideally up against a white garage door :D

I actually bought it from my brother, so it's probably about 5 or 6 years old by now.
