Well, the back window has ripped from its seams in my miata, so it's time for a new top. After everything is said and done, a new top will run me about $800 after labor to get it all on, and then it'll just have the problem again down the road. So, I'm looking for a hard top.... people want way too much for them, too, but I bet I can get one for $800 or less.
Do you know what this is? This is me waving bye-bye to all my money... ****ing car.
A Miata, eh? My Mazda (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a284/Taerom/Breakers/P1213015.jpg) is better. :p
$800 doesn't seem like a bad deal. I thought convertible tops tended to go for a lot more than that. In any case, its a small price to pay for a fun car. :)

Same engine, mine just goes around corners faster.

I bought a new top for my Miata and put it on myself. They highly recommend against it, but I didnt' have any problems. You must be handy and have a pop rivet gun and a drill. It took me a solid day to do it. But I was taking my time since I have never done anything like that before.
GoMiata.com has several different models and you can even just replace the window($189). I opted for the fabric top with glass window. It was an upgrade from my vinyl top with vinyl window. I wanted to be able to scape ice off of the back window in the winter, which is something I couldn't do with the plastic window. There is no way it cost me $800. They even sell a model with a rear defroster for $479. There are lots of options. The cheapest one they sell is $375.

Hard top, FTW.
Wow, must be nice. I priced a new top for the M3 the other day, right at $2,500!

I don't like the look of the hard tops. Makes the whole thing look like an M&M.

I agree. The latest year retractable hard tops aren't bad at all. But the ~1995 and back versions were horrible. I just couldn't find a picture that matched M&Ms as well!

Mmm sugar coated chocolaty goodness. I can dig that.

How about this one?

Quit insulting the Miata with your nascrap!

I agree. Also getting the hard top on and off looks to be a chore, you need two people or a block and tackle. I'll pass and stick with the rag tops.
Depending on the model year, I've seen Robbins rag tops for as little as $220 (I think it was in the Moss catalogue).

No more spray polish for you!!!!! Bet that car could get around Sears Point faster than a Miata! But as usual, I am probably wrong.:D

Not with you driving it. :p
Maybe, but not the Glen. Those behomoths just look so gangly on a road course.

Good info. I've looked at the stayfast cloth tops before. I have a pop rivet gun, so that should work out. I really like the car, but man I really hate to have to drop the money at this time. $800 is the price with installation labor if you have it done. I was looking at the stayfast clock top with the zip down glass window. It's better for me to just get a new top, as this one has mildewed inside from having leaked inside. I feel like I want to just rip all of the carpet out of the car anyway. In fact I'll probably do that this weekend.

But NASCAR misses the best part of Sears Point, the Carousel! After you hit the apex you are steering to the left but the car is going right. It's the trippiest thing in the world when you first hit it right! It's also the place I was able to take my rice rocket Integra and pass up a Porsche 928, Supra, S2k and others... A little flick of the steering wheel and I got 'em underneath on the left! hehe! Oh I miss that car and that track!
The track where the Miata will kick butt is at Motor Sport Ranch in Cresson, TX! I witnessed an SC'd (and hartopped) Miata destroy a Viper! The short mutli turn track plays into the strengths of the tossable Miata. Then add a Super Charger and it's on!! The Viper owner was none too happy about getting his butt handed to him by a rice rocket!
well, I ripped out the now nasty mouldy carpet today. I'm about to order a SunFast cloth top with a glass rear window. That should do me for quite a while.
