Thanks to a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico this week's riding may be a little soggy. They expect it to make hurricane strength before landfall somewhere on the Texas coastline. The red arrow is where I'm sitting -- I'm doing my best to wave this thing off. :D
Ride the tail wind!!!!! ;)
Weather looking good for surfing tho!

Yep, my nephew was probably out there today. The surfing is usually pretty lame in this part of the Gulf so those big waves are bringing 'em out in droves.
The latest NEXRAD loop (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/radar/loop/DS.p38cr/si.khgx.shtml) shows that it's starting to spin up a bit more.

I grew up in SW Louisiana, we would head to Galvaston everytime there was a big storm in the Gulf!

Hope it clears up for the Katy Flatlands.
Are you riding it? (I am doing the full Century)

Oh, well....if it rains during the week let it be, I can use the rest off the bike. I can just pop it into the trainer. (My bike lost its spot on the trainer as of last night...my wife got a new Trek 2000 WSD and wants to use the trainer to practice the clipless for a week or so before heading out on the open road.

Looking more like a real storm now -- the red 'X' in the northern part of the storm is where I'm at... things are actually pretty calm with not much wind or rain.

Grendel, pc:
Wet now but decent last weekend, huh? I got a couple good training rides in.
I'm doing the Katy Flatlands, rain or shine. First time for me. Sounds like it usually pulls a good crowd and the ride is fast. Either of y'all done it before?

This is my first year on the KFC, I will be doing the century ride with my club. (Space City Cycling Club) Probably going to try and keep a 20mph average up for the century.
The weekend was beautiful. I was off the bike because my wife was doing her Open Water Checkout Dives (Scuba) in Huntsville this weekend. I was participating in them as a refresher. It really hurt to be in Huntsville and not get to ride. It has been a few months since I did the loop that starts in New Waverly.
I will also be at the Flatlands rain or shine....

I am glad I was able to get a good ride in on Sunday. With the wind blowing the way it is, I just need some string and a garbage bag, tie it to my handle bars and fly down the road (only going west that is. Surfside surf cam has it looking like a blender out there, for once I am glad to be @ work, and not out playing. But I did go home for lunch and rode my bike back to work. Predicting 8 inches of rain today for Pasadena, so I won't be flooding my truck.
Good luck to yall doing the KFC, as for me I'll be heading to Austin for some trial riding.
Ride on
Yeah, what you'll want to do is get one of those patented helmets of Lance's that he used in the TTT. Then you'll want to ride into the wind for the first part of the ride, and coming back, just ride with the wind. It will certainly be an adventure for you!
;)
hey ya'll can send some of that rain up this way,
we're down a fair bit.
thanks for giving me something to stare at for at least
1/2 hour. Being colour blind (red green deficiency) it took
me at least that long to find the "red" (I'll take your word for it)
X in all that green (I'll take your word for that too!) got
a good headache out of the deal too :D

If your willing to meet me in Austin, I can hand you some jars from my dad's rain barrel. Now that is a whole new spin on "Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season"

I haven't done it before -- this year would be my first. I'm a weather weenie so I won't go if it's raining... hate riding in the rain!
How is the weather down there? Up here just south of Abilene we got a few stray runaway storm clouds and some 20-25mph winds, but no rain. I felt maybe two drops on my ride today between 3:30 and 6:00, but that is it.

It turned out to be a non-event in the north part of Harris County where I am -- we only got about an inch of rain from the whole deal and not much wind. I feel bad for the folks down around Palacios... they got their @sses kicked pretty good (well, as much as you'll get from a Cat 1) and have a real mess to clean up. If that's our storm for the year I'll be very happy; it sure could have been worse.

Mods, maybe this thread is a Lounge act now?
Here's an interesting site (http://www.hurricanehunters.com) about the Hurricane Hunters... the people that fly airplanes into these things. These folks have 'nads of steel to be flying anywhere other than AWAY from these things!
