Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i like to ride a few loops around a hilly local park because it is relatively car free, very scenic, and is a great work out

getting there on a busy 5 lane road (4mi) is usually my only worry..until this week

started out with a truck carrying a bunch of portapotties going up a big hill the wrong way (almost the entire park is one-way as it is one lane and very curvy)

unfortunately i am coming down a blind curve at 30mph and almost end up plastered to the front end of the truck...just the way i wanted to go...plastered to the front end of the poop-mobile

the driver yells at me for almost running into him

i remind him that he is going the wrong way on a one way road in a park...and after threatening to call the police...he politely goes in reverse back down the hill to turn around

later on the same ride i see a fellow with his rottweiler unleashed coming down the same big hill i am riding up....unfortunately his dog hates bikes and makes 8-9 lunges at my bike....finally grabbing on to my rear wheel. the fellow apologizes that his dog hates bikes but not people (small comfort) and finally gets control after about 3 minutes. too bad the fellow is obviously illiterate as there are "dogs must be leashed" signs everywhere

if i had carried my oc spray that day fido would have had a nasty suprise ...even more if ccw was allowed in the park.

my wheel looked ok and cujo and his owner went their own way.

my next ride a spoke on the same wheel broke and i ended up with a fubar wheel and a ruined ride

the good news is that i got to go gawk at some of the new bikes at my lbs while it was getting fixed

At least you were able to keep the rubber side down!

Glad you are okay.

I'm scared to death of dogs when I'm on my bike. They don't seem to like bikes. LOL What do you spray them with? I've considered adding a holster/gun to my bike -- just kidding! :D

Cytomax in the face - startles them then they turn around licking their head...Never failed...yet
