I'm meeting up with my wife in Portland after the STP. I've rode a few centuries before, so I know I'll be tired, but plan to be functional enough to go out for happy hour and dinner.

We're just in town one night, staying near the "Classical Chinese Garden" - any suggestions for places I must try? I enjoy IPA and other hoppy beer if that helps narrow it down. :D

Thanks in advance.

The NW Portland Lucky Lab (http://www.luckylab.com/html/story.html). My personal favorite.

Rogue Public House (http://www.rogue.com/locations-portland.html).

You could take the Yellow Line MAX across the river to the Widmer Gasthaus (http://www.widmer.com/map_gasthaus.aspx).

I stopped going to Bridgeport (http://www.bridgeportbrew.com/index.php) ever since they took out the good bike parking, but it's close to where you're staying.

Oh yeah have a great ride! Won't be doing the STP this year opted for the RSVP. That is even a better ride.

This is my first STP, but I've done a handful of centuries. Most of the rides up in my area are very hilly, but also very scenic. I anticipate this ride will be more of a milestone event, than a physical challenge and I'm riding with a good group of folks. We'll have fun no matter what.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Strangely enough, they don't have one that's very convenient to where smurf hunter and his wife are staying.

This is one of those threads - where you'll have a bunch of locals throwing out favorites - with good fortune there won't be any Forum Brawls breaking out......

So let me proceed to be a throwing-local!

Hoppy Beer.... ? No body?.... Roots!!!!! Great Organic Brew!
Despite the comments on Bridgeport "bike" parking - one of the best for IPA
The always reliable - Lucky Lab! my personal preferred watering hole - the one on NW Quimby (next to Dove Lewis Animal Hospital)

2 things of note about Rogue..... not mentioned here........

1) Rogue has to go up for Nomination of the absolute (inclusive solely to quality brew) Smokiest Brew Pub in PDX. 2) I do have a bit of an issue considering the fact that for some reason Rogue sees fit to charge a premium for a pint, even though its brewed right there! I can't think of another local Brewer that charges the premium for pints right at their Brew house (more than anything for me, its just a case of principle - they still make good beer).

And lastly - The Portland International Brew Festival is going on this weekend too! $20 gets you in with 20 tickets for tastings. Taking place over on the park blocks in the Pearl.

Ciao,
