Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - who here is riding fixed 20" wheels?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

just curious. i've got a fixed swift folder and was wondering who else is riding fixed on small wheels.

ok, not just curious, i've been thinking about swapping my fat heavy Big Apples on Deep V's for a skinny 451 wheelset and i wonder if i'll be able to get rid of them, cos i can't justify the cost of owning two wheelsets. :)

I'm not yet, but I have a Bianchi ss folder that I have been thinking about turning fixed. How have you been liking it? My Bianchi is twitchier than hell due to how small it is.

it is a little twitchy, but i'm used to it since my last bike was a folder with 20" wheels. trackstanding is harder too.

Anyone riding a fixed bmx..?
I know they are all getting into the brakeless scene now...

really... interesting. do they use track hubs for that, or are there custom fixed hubs with the larger bmx (e.g. 14mm) axles?

I wouldn't really say they're getting into it now. I stopped riding bmx a few years ago, but before that there were always a substantial number of guys that ran brakeless on freewheels for whatever reason.

It should be noted here that brakeless freewheel BMX bikes are not generally used for riding through traffic at 20MPH (although I'm sure there are idiots who have tried this)...they are usually used to do tricks on a parking lot.

it might just be worth sticking with the 406mm size and trying some new tirres..
i think threres a lot more options than in the 451

deep v's in that size though might be pretty stiff...

coelcanth: good point. the only snag is that i have Deep V MTB rims, which are 24mm wide, so real skinny tires are out of the question.

Brakeless anywhere, except trails or the track.

Hey Levity, when did you get the frame? I have been trying to get one but I haven't heard back from Peter Reich yet, I am worried he is out of stock. Also, I may be interested in the wheel set. PM if you are still selling.

It is a dual suspension Moulton (front brake) and I did a Super Randonneur series last year on it, so it works quite well. I don't bother much with skids, that's kiddy stuff.
