A couple of surprising stories. One cyclist was hit by a motorcycle in Kansas, and another was struck and pinned by a falling tree in Georgia. Maybe we worry too much about being hit by a car? Last year a tree fell in the spot where my mini-van had been only two hours before. Another time a MC passed me while I was standing on my right pedal, and the MC rider's foot went under my left pedal. Very close call, but the ironic thing was he was wearing sneakers and I was wearing boots.
Maybe I should've made two separate posts, but these articles appeared the same day:

Nedell was dead at the scene.

Falling tree kills bicycle rider
AUGUSTA - An abrupt Wed-nesday afternoon storm resulted in the death of a man riding a bicycle when an uprooted tree crashed onto a small convenience store in Augusta's historic district.
The man was riding the bike near the store when the tree fell.
Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen identified the victim late Wednesday night as Robert Walker, 40, of Augusta.
Bowen determined Walker's preliminary cause of death to be asphyxia, but the body was taken to the Atlanta GBI state crime lab Thursday for an autopsy and a determination of an official cause of death, he said.
Four people were trapped inside the store, but two escaped without assistance, and two other individuals were freed by Richmond County firefighters, said Richmond County Emergency Management Director Howard Willis.
Well-wishers and neighbors helplessly watched as utility workers and firefighters cut away tree limbs to free individuals trapped inside the small store commonly known as Downtown TnT.
At about 3:30 p.m., a gust of wind caused the tree to uproot and strike Walker, Willis said.
"It appeared he was riding a bicycle alongside the store when the tree hit him," Willis said.
Harold Hightower said his son and another man were trapped inside the store.
"A big gust of wind came up like a tornado. And when I went down there, I saw what happened," Hightower said, referring to the accident site. "I tried to call 911. But it was busy, and they never called back. Then I started to help the ones trapped in here, but there was nothing I could do."
Bill Fennoy, whose house is across the street from the store, blames decaying city trees for the accident.
Mayor Deke Copenhaver, who also was at the accident scene, acknowledged the growing danger of older trees. But he said many city trees are on private property, and re- moval involves a private cost factor.
