I have a 51cm Schwinn fixed gear. Mavic rims w/ Formula hubs, Dura-Ace cog, Shimano 105 cranks, risers w/ oury grips, Schwinn saddle, plain kalloy seatpost, MKS pedals w/ straps.

Here is a pic:

Do you think it'd be possible to sell it all for around $550?

its only worth somewhere in the $200's. no where near $550.

for that kind of dough you can get a brand new purpose built track bike with better components.

Well the frame I got for $70, wheels were $120. Seatpost was another $20. That's all ready over $200. Not counting the cranks, cog, chainring, chain, etc...maybe 500 is a little steep but, 'naw mean?

its rare to make back the money spent in buying parts piecemeal when you resell a whole bike.

So why do you think people would pay around $200 more than you did for used bike.

I'll give you four dollars for the extension cord.

Take what you paid and halve it. Hope you get that much.

Not saying you won't get back every cent you paid, but just don't expect it.

Not to be unkind, but you're crazy.

I've frequently bought old 10-speeds for $10, made them into single speed, and sold them for over $100 on ebay. It usually comes out to around $70 or so in profit.

roadgator

yeah, but he didnt come into is parts as abandoned junk. an old conversion is only going be worth so much, no matter what parts you hang on it.

plus, you are adding the value of fixing it up and making it a single speed.

I wouldn't give you 250 for it.

Wow I don't know why I wrote $550 for that, now that I think about it that's ridiculous amount for my bike.

I guess all I really want is a new frame w/ track ends :/

I think you'd make a lot more selling the wheelset, frame, and parts separately. Be patient and you can find someone on Craigslist who's willing to pay a lot more than you paid for that wheelset.

Yeah I considered that, but I mean I have good wheels so I do want to keep them..

For some reason I am drawn to the EAI BrassKnuckle right now and want that frame but can't justify spending $300 on it, especially right now..

What wheels do you have? Your original post suggested that you were selling the ones (Mavic CXP-22 I assume) in the picture.

We should just start a financial advice thread.

How do you guys feel about the S&P this quarter? I've got some prospective investments I wouldn't mind trading PMs over.

Is it like an old heavy LeTour or World Sport frame? or is it new and light?
Old and Heavy - Worth~$150
New and Light - Worth~$250 (at best)

Although I'm a bit late, I'd say you'd get $300-400 on craigslist depending on where you are. Around here it'd sell like a hotcake, but not NY or SF.

Good luck!

My point is that those aren't good wheels. They're decent, but they're nothing you couldn't easily replace, and there will always be someone on Craigslist who will pay more than you bought them for. If you want to build your second bike around them, sell the rest of the parts off of that bike, and if you don't... well, sell the wheels too.

How much do you think I can get for these wheels w/o the tires?

There is a guy interested. He also has a Raleigh Technium (sp?) in a 51cm, that may be my size..being an aluminum frame I am interested in it but I don't know what kind of deal I should try making? Should I just sell the wheels and forget about that frame?

hiredgoons
07-19-07, 03:32 PM
If you're going to build another fixed gear, keep the wheels. What I meant was that if you were going to try to sell the entire bike, you'd be better off selling the parts instead.

Just to clarify, I have that wheelset, and it works great; however, it's not something worth holding onto if you're not going to use it.

Well I am fully satisfied with them, they seem to be pretty good wheels. My major want right now is a different frame..so if there is some way I can profit from selling the wheels, that excess will go towards the frame..
