Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - my girlfriend needs a bike.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So i told my girlfriend i was getting her a bike. It's gotta be something with a flip flop hub, and something pretty small. I'm thinking i'll just get one of the Windsor bikes that bikes direct is selling, and be done with it. Wont have to piece together a bike, and i'm sure she'll like something shiny and new. I know it comes in a 49cm. , but does anyone know what the standover height is on that size. I couldnt find this listed on the website. I was hoping to have something put together but the end of this month. So basically what i'm sayin is..... is this bike gonna get me the ass that i so deserve, i mean she won't know the difference between this one and a $2k bike.
Thanks. jdb.

i dont think so....crap.
If she sees this thread and bolts, it was never meant to be...
if the windsor is the same as the fuji (or is that the mercier?) then the standover on the 49cm (measured c-t, not c-c) is just under 30inches.

Nice. I think just under 30" should be fine for her. I ride a 53cm. and my inseam is only about 30"-32"
my wife rides a 48 and she has a 30" inseam
I really hope the bike conversation didn't go like this "I 'm getting you a bike" "ok whatever" if it did get her something else she isn't into bikes too many dudes get their girls bike because they think it would be great to do but they aren't feeling it 90% of the time
plus you get more brownie points when you ask her exactly what she wants in a bike and build it for her

wow I ride a 56 and have a 30 inseam, and my saddle is WAY up there too. hmmmm.

If you love your gf - $500 is nothing compared to what you'll spend to put a lil bling on her finger.
my girlfriend has a 49cm windsor. shes about 5'2''. i think her inseam is like 27in or something

Yeah. Dude's riding a tiny bike, unless he's exaggerating with that wide 30"-32" estimate.

no offense, but did you ask her if she wanted a bike?
I got a partner really pissed off at me for giving them a bike once.

First of all, you don't deserve her ass if you're just going to stick on some half-ass bike. Take the time and build her up one with creativity and love. If she's not worth it, then stop wasting her time. And if you don't want to or can't build her up one, find someone who can...maybe she will fall in love with him instead.

Heres the deal. She has this big huge pink cruiser. It's such a pain to drag around everywhere we go. I told her i was going to get her a new bike just to make any ride so much easier. Theres no way she's gonna be cruisin around on that thing downtown. It just sucks. So i asked her like what colors she likes, and that kinda thing. She really doesn't know and could care less about the differences between bikes. I think this is really just for me, hoping that a new bike will pursuade her to get out and ride with me and give us one more thing in common.
Oh about the bike i ride. It's a 53cm. rush hour, and i'm tellin you when i stand over that thing it's scary. My business is gotta be on one side or the other. Theres just not much room. I buy pants with a 30" inseam, but i guess my legs are even shorter than i thought. ****.

hey I really like my fuji track.. I had to change a bunch of things, but it is still a really fun and inexpensive bike (I still had to change (at the very least) the handlebars, seat and stem).. I totally suggest you get her a cheaper bike so she can see how she likes it (and she will like more than her cruiser or shes an idiot ;)) and when she gets way into it then you guys can build up a sweet bike together... leaving the cheap bike as a beater.. hurray! thats what Im doing :D

is this suppose to be sarcastic?
are you actually saying that this guy's worth as a boyfriend is determined by how much money he is willing to spend on his girlfriend?
i think i just threw up a little bit...

Not sarcastic at all! ( Please read original post regarding "getting some ass.")
All I'm saying is, if she isn't worth the bike, then why make an issue of it. Get her what works for her, regardless of whether or not it gets you ass. If you want to ride with her, then ride with her. Getting a bike for a girlfriend should not be a condition of whether you get ass or not. If she's into you, then a new bike shouldn't be a factor of getting ass.
My 2 cents...
Get her a bike that is within your price range and I'm sure she will be stoked. A "bikes direct" or whatever, given with affection, is better than any 2K+ bike.
Just do it for the right reasons or it will never be worth the price you pay.
OK... I like the new specialized langsters... lots of options... But maybe get her a beater and put some effort into cleaning it up. It might end up cheaper if you do it right. It also will make it more personal.
Good luck.

Would any of you boys like to hear what one of us bike riding girls has to say about the whole thing? I ride a Bianchi San Jose and love it. But it's the bike I wanted because I love riding. If the girlfriend doesn't care too much about the bike, maybe the girlfriend's not a good fit for you and the bike's not the problem. Guys are always telling us we're trying to change them...what are you trying to do?
Stop talking about women like they don't know anything about being on a bike!

Not talking about women knowing nothing about being on a bike. But my gf doesn't along with probably most of her friends. Obviously if you're here then you know something about bikes but you don't represent all women. All i am trying to do is get her a bike so she can see what i spend all of my time and money on. Like i said before i hope she really falls in love with it, and wants to ride all the time but if she doesn't then thats ok too. There are still have a million other things we have in common if she hates it.

You're the one that can't observe some very simple guidelines. I deleted your inappropriate post, so you posted it again. As I stated already, if you can't follow the rules, leave. If you don't want to follow them, and you don't want to leave voluntarily, you'll just be banned. Simple as that. I hope we have an understanding now.
that was one of the more interesting bfssfg tangents
anyway
it sounds like a good plan to go cheap
see if she likes it and then upgrade later on

We stopped killing members a long time ago. Apparently, the permanent ban is almost as effective, and a lot less messier.
