Does anyone know of a lightweight, foldable, chair that can be carried on the bike (of course), and used to sit on (instead of the ground/pavement) for those quick stops?

I saw a foldable kickstand mentioned in another thread, and thought that there must be something like a tripod-stand with a fabric seat out there somewhere.

I been wanting one of these for backpacking. at 18 oz it is about as light as you can get and looks a lot more comfortable than the 3 legged stools and whatnot. the only holdup is the price. $100 is pretty steep.

I have one of these, but my ass is too wide to sit on it comfortably.

I'm going to buy this one.

The second one is no wider than the first, but it will handle my weight (220) and there no metal frame sections at the edges where my wide ass will hang over.:D

the trail sling at campmor looks close to the sling light.. in design anyway tho maybe not quite as comfortable since the sling light does have the head rest. for the 100 dollar price .. the sling light is also a little lighter good question...

This one is interesting, and since I weigh 262 pounds, this has the right capacity. However, I wish it was higher off the ground, since my legs will be tired from the cycling. Otherwise, it looks great, and the sale price is certainly good.

The venerable 18 ounce SLINGLIGHT chair design has recently been copied (liscensed? sold ? out of patent?) by Crazy Creek Products, at half the price.... even incudes the headrest for 50 bucks. Slinglight, had one in the eighties, what a chair. Even seats two (nod, nod, wink, wink...)

Updated and cheaper, the Crazy Creek Cradle Lounger.

and OH, so comfy. I brought one on tour last fall, most excellent. Its not the most compact, however, and needs to be strapped onto the top of the rear luggage.

Yeah, it's called a raodside barrier, nicely contoured galvanized, ergonomic surface. Usually enough seating to accomodate all your friends.

We should come up with a new Jules Verne Trophy to be awarded to whomsover makes the first circumnavigation without touching any object that was not first reviewed in Outside magazine. Favorably reviewed, goes without saying.

We carried the Thermarest Trekker (http://www.vwvagabonds.com/Bike/BikeMattress.html) chair with us on our tour of the U.S. West Coast.

It is a simple nylon cover for a Thermarest mattress that weighs next to nothing. Of course, the mattress itself is bulky and somewhat heavy. I have to say, it is very comfortable. Though, while it is perfect for the campsite I cannot imagine taking it out of the pack and inflating it at a rest stop on the side of the road.

hey, thermarests... heavy ???Which one do you have?? I have the Prolite 3, cost about 80 euros, but its so small, light, and folds as thing as paper in comparison to others ive seen, and its fullsize. Expensive, but they are a really good company to deal with, and will repair or replace at low cost. And they are made in south of ireland, handy for me !!!

im considering going to get that seat thing today, if La Rochelle has good campng shops that is.

Strange i stumbled apon this, as angela an me where just talking about HOW much we want some sort of seat... Sitting on the floor really doesnt cut it all the time.

Ive a pretty back back, causes me a lot of pain, so camping in general is sore. For sure i will have some sort of chair either by the end of this tour, or by the next one. Anyone who hasnt toured, get one before you go !! Worth the weight in my opinion unless ur really hardcore about weight ...

In an earlier post I mentioned that I was buying this chair:

http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=39192811&memberId=12500226

It arrived the other day, but it's not going to work for me - I'm sending it back. I'm 6' 1", 220lbs and way too big for this chair! The "padded headrest" hits me just below the shoulder blades and feels like someone pressing their knuckles into my spine. I sat in the chair for about 5 minutes and my back hurt the rest of the evening. Think of the worst hide-a-bed sofa you ever slept on; this is the chair version of that. It might work okay for a child or a very small adult if you supplemented the "padded headrest" with your camp pillow. I love the way it packs down for transport, but that's irrelevant since I can't stand to sit in it.

Thanks for the update savage24. Makes you wonder if the folks who design and market this stuff actually use them, doesn't it?
