I would like to find a good, long, flat, uninterupted ride in northwest Connecticut that I can use to test my progress. (Speed.) Everything around where I live is hilly. Anybody know of any? I'm having no luck with maps.

Any roads along the Housatonic?

Rte. 7 along the Housatonic would be about the closest thing to "flat" that I can think of.

The northwestern part of CT is not known for it's flat areas :).

If you can head over to the CT river valley, that's pretty flat up near the MA border on the west side of the river.

There isn't much around here that counts as flat. Rt 7, north of the Dam in Kent to just past the center of town, Rt 7 again from the MA line to around Cornwall Bridge are two spots. Another spot is in New Milford from Still River Drive to Grove Street to Rt 67. Frankly, none of these spots would qualify as flat in comparison to Savannah. However, compared to climbing the hills around Candlewood, Rt 133 from Brookfield to Bridgewater, or Rts 45 and 341 from New Preston to Kent, they are billiard table flat in comparison.

And throw in a couple of laps around Lake Waramaug. I think it's 8 miles around and flat

Sections around Waramaug are flat, but it's a bit deceptive. There are a fair amount of little dinky 20' to 30' vertical rollers. In comparison to, say, climbing Rt 39 in Sherman, or rt 133/67 in Bridgewater/New Milford, its flat. In comparison to truly flat areas, though, not exactly.

OK ... picky picky. I just looked at Gmaps, and I think there's one spot where it gains 25 feet over a MILE, I think that works out to a 1/2 of 1 percent grade. So, no, it's not dead flat like riding along the beach in Florida, but the fact that it's a loop allows you to go for a long, flat ride if you like ... just do 10 laps.
