I have not mentioned this before but.........
Yesterday my wife underwent a successful surgury to remove a portion of her colon due to cancer. All went better than expected and the outlook is excellent for a complete recovery. Although not found due to a routine screening it was diagnosed relatively early and appears to have been removed while still confined to one location.
My thanks to the 50+ for even though you did not know it at the time, you put up with my half witted banter which served to occupy some of my time and kept me from running in circles screaming and shouting. Although I have never met any of you in person I consider the 50+ crew to be friends with a common attitude (poor you)
Now, sometime soon I may be able to get off my butt and ride again which will be good as I have gotten fat and lazy the last few weeks.
You will also have to put up with my half witted banter in the future. To steal a line from someone here who shall remain nameless "I am who I am".

Half-witted? To us quarter-witted you sounded just fine. Good wishes to your wife to be up and about soon. Assure her she's just become part of the BF crowd now. Won't getting back to boring normalcy together be exciting. Keep us posted on Mrs. Maxx's progress-- and your own as you get back on the road.
You might treat her to a new pair of earrings "on us" (virtually).
Best wishes on speedy recovery.

Is that what you call it? Half witted? Well, it's way good enough for me! Hey, best wishes for a speedy recovery, thanks for sharing, and try posting next time from the other half of your brain, just to see what happens! :D

Can I ask how the cancer was found, since it wasn't found during a routine screening?

There's no shock like the jolt of finding out your loved one is fighting the "Big C"
Of all the words I read in your post, the most significant was "successful"
Keep on believing.
Best wishes to you and yours... it gets a little easier now.

Good old fashoned pain and 13 weeks of various tests. By the time we took our biking vacation on Cape Cod on the 1st of June my wife was only able to stay on the bike for 2 miles. By then she was just getting her first appointment with a GI specialist. Since then the tests and Cat Scans have been proceeding and a much faster pace, leading to yesterdays surgery.

Happy to hear the surgery on the better half went well and then some.
I hope she has a speedy recovery.
I'm so glad it went well. My Grandma had the same thing done at age 80, and she's 91 now, and it never showed up again. When they say, good prognosis, it's good!

Boy, some people will use any old excuse for not riding and getting fat;) Seriously. maddmaxx, I am happy that all is going so well for your wife and wish her a most speedy recovery. Also I am delighted that the old farts forum has been a source of distraction and comfort to you during this time of intense personal turmoil. And finally I am assured by your recognition that your remarks have been, in most cases, half-witted, because if they were witted, they would have made no sense. :p
I'm happy for you and your wife, and I wish you luck and a speedy recovery for your wife. I had that surgury done just before I retired and everything has been well since. The worse part of it now is, you have to get tested every year, but it still better than getting cut again. Good luck and God bless.

Thankyou all very much for the wishes.
Mrs Maxx came home from the hospital today and is up and moving (very slowly) around a little. An estimate of 8 to 13 weeks recovery time is now expected. Only one more hurdle ahead, the results of the final tests to determine if there will be any chemo.

No major restrictions though I suspect that Buffalo Wings are out for the time being. I am astounded by what the doctors can do with modern medecine.

34-0 is a very good score.
West Virginia -34, Pitt -0 would be a nice way to celebrate your good fortune.
So no restrictions on your menu ... except for the limits of your cooking skills. Rate them on a scale of 0-10, so we have some idea of what your wife has in store.

34 to 0, Mrs. maxx pitched a shutout. A Major League victory. It's time to shake up a bottle of champagne and spray her with it. Let us know how it turns out.:p
