hi, i'm new here... i'll be known as mad mike... but i'm not mad at anything or anybody, its mad as in crazy.... :) i'm in southern ky and have lots of hills to contend with...

i'm an old time cyclist that had to give up my riding for a career... things are slowing down now so that i'm beginning to get my legs back... and am searching for groups with cycling as a common interest...

i'm tickled to have found you and hope to learn a whole big lot...

thanks!

Hello mad mike--so you are a fellow hill lover, then? What kind of riding do you do, other than riding up and down hills? And what kind of ride have you got?

Welcome to BF!

heehee... the word lover doesn't quite describe my feelings toward hills

i ride for the pure sake of the ride... i like being able to see things at cruising speeds that i miss in an automobile drive...

we live in the country in what is quickly becoming an Amish community... and i enjoy riding the neighborhood and having the opportunity to stop and chat when i want... pedals are one of the Amish modes of transportation... and they ride some very expensive hardware... i've been to their bike shop several times...

i don't have much of a ride myself, right now... a really old fixed gear... made from a stripped down road bike and its a fast one... the cog is one of the larger ones... but it makes the hills harder...

i have another... a 3 speed adult trike that i like... but talk about a workout!!! 10 to 12 mph is fast on it and lots of times i drop down to 4 or 5 mph on grades... and walk up some of the steeper hills...

i use an older garmin gps for tracking speeds and keeping up with where i'm at...

thanks for the interest! hope to chat again!

I keep thinking I should add a fixed gear to the stable, and then remind myself that those are some big hills! I think I could almost do it though...

I know what you are saying about missing things riding in an automobile. Yesterday I went on a ride with some friends and showed them something that virtually no-one who stays in an automobile sees--a riparian forest in the middle of downtown Renton, Washington.

Amazing what you can find when you wander the neighbourhoods on a bicycle.
