Does anyone know if there is a children's book that teaches about the rules of the road and safe cycling? My nephews are 6, 4, and 2 years old. I have taught the oldest how to ride a two wheeler and they all love biking. My neighborhood has sidewalks for riding but their's doesn't so they have to ride in the street.

I don't know of a book but the cub scouts have alot of training resources for alot of things like this. Do a search on "bicycle rodeo". It will give you pointers on what areas to cover and a variety of methods of how to cover it.

Contact these folks (http://www.bikeleague.org/).
At 6 their mental processes are not yet adequate for the task of riding on the road, tho' kids of that age can ride with parents on quieter (much) roads, although trails are better for them. Your best bet is a trailer bike or tandem with kiddie cranks - then you can talk them thro' what you're looking for in way of safety, proper positioning, what other vehicles are likely to do, etc.
In the UK there are kids versions of the Highway Code - doesn't any govt. org. do anything like that.
Sprockids (www.sprockids.com) in Canada produce a full school curriculum programme which also includes road safety booklet

The plan is to start getting the fundamentals into thier heads. Right now there is a dead end where houses are being built. There are no cars there when the workers are gone, so I can safely ride with them there. A 6 year old can certainly learn to ride on the ride side of the road and to stop at stop signs. I thought that a story book that discusses some of that stuff would get the oldest interested in the rules.
