I left on July 5th, to go 2 hours north to a resort cabin where we were staying for a week. We get there, I rode a bit of bike, and then we unpacked, my dad went fishing and we just sat around and talked. On Sunday when I woke up I was sleeping in the truck cause I had to sleep with my cousin who well ... needless to say I didn't sleep with him. Sunday I went for a little bike ride, 4 miles to a small town and back. Sunday I got a good night sleep.
Monday, I woke up and it was like 2PM, so I decided I should do something with my time. I decided to ride north to a town called Pequot Lakes, check my e-mail at a little computer store, and then ride back. Well, the map said 3 miles north, so I figured that the ride would be 2 miles over, then two miles north, but I also went down about a mile so I wasn't on the highway. So yes, 6 miles sounds pretty good.
So, I pull into town, and I'm approaching 9 miles, rode past the computer store, then rode up a big hill, down it, then I found it. They closed at 5PM, and it was ... 5:15PM. Great, so I asked if I could just check my mail atleast. So I did that, and was on my way.
I rode down back to the main highway, crossed it, went to a Super America, go some more Gatorade and something to eat, and was going to start biking back. So at 6:48PM, I remember pulling out of Pequot Lakes, and then riding for about two miles.
I then woke up on the ground and a lady asked me for my name, a phone number, where I was staying at, and such. I could feel my legs and all, but my back was really sore. I could hear an ambulance, but I was in an out of it, and then they rolled me over onto a backboard, etc, took me to the hospital.
I was sideswiped by a pickup. Here's the interesting part. I was riding on a Trail that is paralell (almost to the highway I was riding alongside - and there could be 100 to 700ft of forest between me and the highway at any given time. However, as I was riding, there are little streets that take people from the highway to resorts, homes, and cabin's. Well, I was hit by one. Now I always look but I later found out that the bushes were really high and I didn't see it coming (but I know I didn't, cause I looked and there was no pickup).
I was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd, MN and I was x-rayed, cat-scanned, MRI'ed, and poked and prodded at. I was taken up to my room at about 11PM that night. I remember going in and out of rooms and hearing my parents talk, moving my arms, getting my 4 stiches put in above my right eye.
I had broken my right leg, my tibia to be specific right below my knee. I also had a sacral fracture to my sacrum (I don't remember what the **** it actually is, but it's a broken left pelvis in simpler terms). I had to go have surgery on it, so 4 days after my accident I had a little plate put into my leg right below the knee. (Reminder: Drugs that they use to put you to sleep are good). I was out for the remainder of Friday, but I did find out I had a torn ligament, or acl (not Access Control List).
So, a week after my accident I left the hospital, and then the next day I post this. I will post pictures later.
Cliff Notes:
1) Rode bike
2) Got sideswiped by a truck
3) Broke my tibia, my pelvis and tore and lots of cuts and such.
4) No profit.
