Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Seats and tires

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have been back into cycling for a moth or so now and my seat is killing me on longer rides(10+). I have a 2002 Diamondback response, and need new tires and was wondering about seats. The Avenir seat I have on it was purchased when I weighed 175lbs and it doesn't suit me anymore. I'm at 230lbs and was considering a beach cruiser seat. I know I'll look funny but for once i don't care. My frame is aluminum, pretty rigid but I have a front suspension.
I hope I provided enough info so heres the questions
A nice seat designed for us Clydes? What to look for in a seat like material and structural design?
A good all around tire for road ad some lite trail riding? Looking for a balance between comfort and performance.
Thanks you all!

Brooks B-17, I have one and it's likely the only seat I'll ever ride now. IT's.. glorious.
Is the response a 26inch wheeled bike, or a road wheeled? Are the trails offroad ones, paved, gravel?

Thanks, I realize now that theres a sticky about this :o
For the trails, they are mostly soft dirt or slippery mud. I rarely see gravel where I am riding.
And the wheels are 26" walmart specials as of now. I used to go through tires quickly but lately I am shredding these crap-o-lah tires apart.
Thanks again for the advice
A good saddle is a personal choice, one that I have yet to make a permanent decision on. Though the Brooks B17 is touted as the best saddle on the market, and the price isn't all that bad either.
For your tires, I'd suggest something like the Kenda Kross Plus tire, or any other tire with a smooth center section and knobbie sides. The smooth center section is great on the pavement and hard packed dirt and the knobs on the sides aid in traction when you get in the mud or wet grass. Though there are other tires out there that will fit the bill, I've only used the Kenda tires I mentioned. But now I use strict road tires on my converted mountain bike.

Brooks B-17 Pre-Softened here. I could not believe the folks that commented on it today while on a ride in the City. They all asked if it hurt, but this saddle I can ride right now with normal shorts with NO padding at all.
