I'll bust out a better report tomorrow when I get my pics uploaded. Here's the short version of my short story.
At 108 miles, it was my longest ride ever.
At a 15.3 riding speed average, it wasn't such a slack ride.
Most of all, great ride, tons of fun!
How did y'all do with elevation? My garmin recorded a laughable 5800 feet. I'm thinking closer to 4000. The garmin elevation does well with mountains, but I think the rollers confuse the elevation algorithm.

Great ride! Thanks for organizing this, Dan! I have to say, this doesn't feel like a slacker's ride to me. Normal cruising speed is around 20mph when I still have energy left in my legs, and I spent most of my time sucking wheels off of quite a few of you. :D

Glad to meet a lot of you in person after chatting with you online for so long.

• Chimivee, Voltman and Chucklehead, you're amazing riders.
• ME, thanks for leading the way through Laguna - that was horrible-scary.
• Mateo, you had the Ride From Hell. Hope you feel better.
• Indolent, big props to you for organizing this ride.
• Extort +1 on the Bald Hotness Factor. Love the jersey.
• Jschen, I forgive you for dissing ME and me. Your ear is tasty.
• Nacy, you're fun to ride with but it's hard to draft off you.
• Dubbayoo, great job for pushing it through despite the cramping.
Sorry I had to bolt so quickly after eating. I didn't want to fall asleep in traffic. You guys kept up a good pace and I was hard-pressed to keep up. You made me and Sacha stretch our legs quite a bit! It was loads of fun. Now back to bed...

Well, the slacker ride was a success for the most part, and what I mean by that is simply – we only slacked ON breaks. Otherwise, this was a fast-paced train of riders. Great group that showed up and perfect weather (and I do mean perfect – never got hot, just a little warm in the afternoon and we had cloud coverage almost all day). Highlights:
-Markaj, as promised, branded all of us with little red stars in honor of BF
-We stopped at least six times and our breaks were no less than 20 minutes each time.
-Lunch took 1.5 hours.
-Jschen wore his red bibs.
-NyGirl and Smallring rode the tandem – and they flew!
-Matteo – who was looking lean and trim – had a stroke of very bad luck yesterday. He had three flats and his saddle broke. But he still managed to finish!
-Indolent’s lovely wife, Tracie, joined as did Lilly, MadMike’s lady friend
Overall, wonderful day. Sorry, it’s 4:50am as I’m writing this and I got nuthin’ else do to my brain being fried – but there were many jokes and silly moments along the way, which can only be expected with this crowd.

Ride report:
The weather was cloudy and cool - perfect for a long ride! A sizeable group set off from the corner of Brookhurst/Adams after MarkAJ tattooed everyone with BF decals. Most of us got it on the calf, but someone had to be different and have her chest branded.
We made our way as a group through most of the northern OC cities (sorry, I can't keep track of them all), but were split apart as a few of the faster riders went ahead and the peloton stayed behind to watch Extort fix a flat.
Our first main regroup was at a Starbucks in Newport (?) where we were met up with Mel, Matteo, Voltman, Chucklehead and a few others. It was a lengthy stop, photo ops abounded and we were greeted by a Red Bull SAG car who offered everyone free drinks! By now our number had swelled to about 36, and after I had the opportunity to molest Voltman, we set off in smaller groups heading southbound.
Small groups started sorting themselves out speedwise, but no one was going at a "Slacker Pace", with 22-25mph being the norm on the flatter portions. Tandem couple NYGirl77 and hubby Travis set the pace with their tandem and were soon gone from sight. At one point after an impromptu regroup at a stoplight, Indolent did a traffic break, via cop-style, weaving back and forth across the path in an attempt to slow the pace down. Little good it did, because as soon as he stopped doing that, everyone took off again.
We rode our way through Dana Point and Laguna without incident, and regrouped for another lengthy stop at a restroom in San Onofre/San Clemente (?). When I mean "lengthy", I'm talking about breaks being 20-40 minutes of lolling around in the shade, gabbing, joking and looking at each others bikes. Very fun, but not conducive to a fast ride! :D
We again broke into small groups as we entered Camp Pendleton. I tried to keep up with the pace but there was a significent headwind and with the sun now out, the heat started getting to me. The Tortoise group was long gone, and I found myself dropping off the back of the Grumpy Pig-Ziptie group. So I trekked through CP mostly by myself, although Tinrobot also got dropped by that group and tagged onto my back wheel for awhile. I did manage to find a waiting Grumpy Pig and Chucklehead after the exit gate, and we rolled into the Oceanside Pier at 12:08.
After a long lunch break, more posing, lots of socializing and picture taking, groups started rolling out for the return trip. We attracted a few half-century riders (Lily and Tracie) and set off back home breaking up into still smaller groups. I managed to glom onto the PaulB-Jschen-ME group and we all made a pact to respect the "Slacker" theme by vowing to ride home at a leisurely 15mph. HA HA HA HA HA. Yeah, right!
We caught up with the Chimivee-Mel-Matteo-Chucklehead-Voltman group, which had stopped and was attempting to fix Matteo's seatpost. The bolt broke, leaving his saddle falling off. Chimivee produced some duct tape, MacGyver-style, and managed to tape it back together. In the meantime, there were two more flats that had to be fixed (Matteo also managed to have three flats on one ride...I felt so bad for him. But he finished - what a soldier!) My respect for the man knows no bounds. It must have been very painful, or at the very least uncomfortable, to ride all that way with the saddle constantly shifting.
After going back through Camp Pendleton, there was another lengthy regroup past the main gate. More gabbing and socializing. That was great but I had to go to the bathroom really bad and no amount of circling the group and doing figure eights could entice anyone back on their bike. Finally, PaulB clipped in to stretch out his legs and I enlisted him (rather begged him) to ride with me to the nearest bathroom. Back to San Onofre (?) and another regroup/bathroom break for the peleton.
Heading back, we went through the Traffic Hell known as Laguna Beach. Traffic was so tight we had to paddle our bikes through nearly impassable roads, hopping onto sidewalks, narrowly missing baby strollers and drunken parties emerging from restaurants. I was scared s***less after a number of close encounters and was trying to follow ME, who was bravely threading her way through the mass. My nerves were frayed and I was actually thinking about pulling off the side and rethinking this, when we see the Extort-Chimivee-PaulB-Chucklehead-et al train flying by in the middle of the street! They actually formed a line in between the double row of cars and were able to get through. In a split second, ME and I saw a small opening and shot out, grabbing onto their wheels in hopes of a quick escape. It was dodgy, I kept my elbows in and at one point, had to drop my head to my handlebars to avoid hitting an SUV's rear-view mirror. Somehow, we managed to get through. ME and I continued on. We were dropped by the Extort group on the next rollers but I didn't care. I was just glad we came out of there in one piece.
We did manage to catch the Extort Train again at a light and together made our way back through Orange County at a not-so-slackerly-pace, between 20-24mph once we were clear of most of the rollers. At the entrance to SART, Nacy continued on home while our little band turned back towards the starting point. No hopes for an easy-spin finish, though, as Tinrobot and I kept up our 20mph pace but were still were losing touch with the others. Luckily, it wasn't far and we got back to the restaurant in good order.
It was quite late when we finished, which is odd because we were riding at a good pace throughout. It was the culmination of all the breaks and regroups that made the day so long. But I wouldn't trade it for anything, though, because everyone was so friendly and a good time was had by all (I hope). Thanks to everyone who made this day so enjoyable! :D

Ride report:
The weather was cloudy and cool - perfect for a long ride! A sizeable group set off from the corner of Brookhurst/Adams after MarkAJ tattooed everyone with BF decals. Most of us got it on the calf, but someone had to be different and have her chest branded.
:D
Yes, well, that someone is asking to have the pic of the star and my upping the ante in this thread removed, because apparently it is offensive to other someones. Next time, I'm going to have a cheek branded for sure. :D

What I've gleaned from this thread:
1. ME is a boobbagger.
2. Slackers? You people are slackerbaggers.
3. Mateo, you need a new bike. (and toss on some Michelin Krylion Carbon tires or Specialized Armadillos...and get a Thomson seatpost....and a torque wrench!)

Did this last all the way through the ride? Duct tape is a wonderful thing, isn't it? I would hardly call this slacking.
