Bicycle Mechanics - Cannondale r600 bottom bracket question

My Cannondale bottom bracket is starting to sound junky, i think it is in need of replacement, does anyone know what i can replace it with? Brand? Type? Anything? I dont know whats in there. I think its a square type. Its an '03 R600 with alot of miles.

I don't think an '03 bottom bracket would need to
be replaced, just repack the bearings.
Its not an extremely difficult task, or your LBS
can do it.

All of the '03 C'dales are listed as having ShimaNo 4 taper
bottom brackets.

I wasnt sure it it was sealed or not, if its not i want to get a sealed one, my lbs or morons, i guess it just need the puller and that other tool that i cant think of the name of.

I've got a 2003 R600, too...I replaced the stock BB and crank with Ultegra...the stock components were heavy as heck! Oh yeah...and when i pulled the stock BB I found lots of metal shavings in the shell...nice to see they cleaned that out prior to installing the BB. Oh well. It's still been a great bike!

I picked up the beautiful R600 the other day at an LBS and I can't believe you guys are complaining about the weight! ;)

I just wished they made a carbon bike like the R600 (frame design, as well as color). But I might get one anyway. :D

It is very light but if it can be lighter than why not. I want to make it all ultegra over time.

That's true, djbowen1. I am a weight weenie myself, and dang proud of it! :D I still like the R600 ...

It really was...I swear that stock BB weighed a ton! Aside from that...I have been super pleased with my R600 - I've got about 3000 miles on her right now and she has been very good to me.

Believe it or not, the wheels were a major reason for me to not buy that bike. IMHO, i think it would be a pain in the ass to have then trued...and I could never even bother trying to do it myself.

There is nothing wrong with those wheels, Whats wrong is that people actually live in Delaware. When you are on vacation or something and someone says where are you from and you say Delaware do you always get the same blank look.

Where the hell is Delaware???? :D


So how does the R600 ride anyway? Is it fairly numb, like the steelies? Or is it as harsh as any other aluminum ride?

hate ro resurect a long dead thread. but i am faced with the same problem as the original poster and was wondering if the BB on the r600 is a cartridge type or a rebuildable type? im gona try and fix this tomoro and woul like to know what my shopping list should be before going to the bike shop. thanks.
