Probably a dumb question, but I was looking forward to seeing Paulo Bettini in the TDF this year. Anyone know why he isn't there?

Needed by Quick Step to win every race in the autumn.

He rode the Giro, and was probably not considered a realistic GC hope for the TDF. The TDF is mostly about Boonen for Quick Step.

Plus, he raced the Giro. Had a respectable showing, for a classics guy.

edit...you beat me to it, m-moon.

He's back in Italy, eating some of the fruit off the tree that his Grandfather planted when he was a young boy. :D

He's set to race in the Vuelta and can't imagine it's advisable to race in the Giro, LeTour AND Vuelta and expect to compete.

Oh hell, I don't know...It's the biggest sporting event in the world and I kind of thought the World Champion would participate....

You mean he's set to start the Vuelta and drop out halfway through to concentrate on the World Championship race and then Lombardy?
