1:15 in the afternoon, just got done working through yet another lunch hour, but I am still pumped up from the ride to work this morning!
Left the house and the temp. was a perfect 67 degrees, with no wind at all. The air felt cool on my bare arms at first, but before long, I warmed up and was very comfortable. The only clouds in the sky were in the east, and treated me to an absolutly beautiful sunrise! Traffic was a little heavier than normal, so I had to do about half the way to work on the shoulder. I did the first 22 miles of the ride without anything of note. Then things changed! I unexpectedly met one of the nicer "A" riders that I know, so I changed directions and caught up to her to warn her of some new broken glass on her route. We had a brief, but pleasant, chat before I again changed direcitons. Back on my way to work, and I crossed a small bridge that carries me over a little wandering creek. How many times have I crossed this little bridge on my bike? I don't know! But, on this day, as I looked to the south, I was surprised to see two sets of eyes looking back at me! There were two yearling does laying in the lush grass next to the water. The grass is long enough that only their heads, necks and tops of their backs are visible. They have obviously bedded down here for the day. They watch with idle curiosity as I glide past them, not making any move to flee from this strange apparition.
I finish my ride feeling so elated! How much the cage-bound commuter misses! You almost have to feel sorry for them!
